Arthur Hamilton, Lord Hamilton
Arthur Campbell Hamilton, Lord Hamilton, (born Glasgow, 10 June 1942), is a Scottish judge and served as Lord Justice General and Lord President of the Court of Session from November 2005 until 8 June 2012, succeeding Lord Cullen. Early life Arthur Campbell Hamilton was born in Glasgow and attended Glasgow High School, which was then a state grammar school. He studied at the University of Glasgow, Worcester College, Oxford and Edinburgh University, where he gained an LLB in 1967. In June 2003, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford. Hamilton was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1968 and appointed Queen's Counsel (QC) in 1982. Archie Stirling
Archibald Hugh Stirling, Laird of Keir (born 18 September 1941), is a Scottish theatrical producer, a former officer in the Scots Guards, and Laird of the Keir estate at Lecropt in the Stirling council area in Scotland. Stirling is the eldest son of William Joseph Stirling of Keir (9 May 1911 – 1983) and his wife (m. 22 November 1940) Susan Rachel Bligh (12 August 1916 – 1983), and a nephew of Colonel Sir David Stirling, DSO, OBE who was the founder of the Special Air Service; both are descendants of Charles II of Scotland and England. His sister Hannah is married to the 7th Marquess of Salisbury. Marriages Stirling's first wife was Charmian Rachel Montagu Douglas Scott (18 July 1942 – 5 April 2009). This article lists political parties in Scotland. Overview The Scottish National Party (SNP) is the main political party in Scotland which primarily supports Scotland becoming an independent nation. They have also supported further devolution as a progression towards independence. They are overall centre-left, and sometimes considered big-tent, advocating social democracy, nuclear disarmament and closer ties to the European Union. They were founded in 1934 and formed a permanent grouping in House of Commons in 1967. Their best election result in the 20th century was at the general election of October 1974 in which they won 11 of Scotland's 72 Westminster seats as well as around 30% of the popular vote, however they lost all but two of these seats in 1979. Scottish Voice
Scottish Voice (provisionally named the Scottish Democrats) was a Scottish centre-right political party, launched in February 2007 by Archie Stirling, a wealthy businessman and landowner. The party headquarters were at Craigarnhall, by the town of Bridge of Allan, in the historical parish of Lecropt. Although Stirling personally is a Unionist, in a statement he said "The position of Scotland within the union is not central to this movement." Many of the new party's supporters were formerly in the Scottish Conservatives, but have found themselves in disagreement with it, particularly after its massive decline in Scottish politics in the 1980s and 1990s. James McGhie, Lord McGhie
James Marshall McGhie, Lord McGhie is a Scottish lawyer who until 2014 was the Chairman of the Scottish Land Court and President of the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and a Senator of the College of Justice. Personal life Education McGhie was educated at Perth Academy, and studied at the School of Law of the University of Edinburgh. He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1969. Family He married Anne Cockburn in 1968, with whom he has a son and a daughter. Legal career McGhie was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1983, and served as an Advocate Depute from 1983 to 1986.
