Events *3 February - Gerli Padar is selected to represent Estonia at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with her song " Partners in Crime". Eesti Otsib Superstaari (season 1)
The first season of Eesti otsib superstaari started on March 11, 2007 and continued until June 14, 2007. It was won by Birgit Õigemeel. The show was hosted by Jüri Nael and Aigi Vahing. The judges were Mihkel Raud, Heidy Purga and Rein Rannap. Auditions Auditions were held in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi in January 2007. The participation was allowed to everybody aged between 16 and 25. 2,500 people sang in auditions and only c. 100 were chosen by the judges to sing at the theatre round. Theatre rounds The theatre round took place in Eesti Nukuteater in Tallinn. After three rounds at the theatre round 32 young singers advanced to the semi-finals. Semi-finals The semifinals took place in April 2007. Four semifinals, plus a 'second chance' semi-final were held in TV3 studios. Eight singers who did not made it to the final were chosen by the judges to the second chance round. With a huge margin Luisa Värk won the televoting and qualified for the final. Dan Põldroos
Dan Põldroos (6 March 1970 – 5 May 2007) was an Estonian stage, television and film actor who began performing on stage at age fifteen. Although mostly known for comedic roles, he was also an accomplished dramatic actor. Põldroos' career ended at age thirty-seven when he died unexpectedly. Early life and education Dan Põldroos was born in Tallinn. He was an only child from his parents' marriage, though he had a half-sibling and a step-sibling. His grandfather's brother was actor, writer, and director Priit Põldroos. As a hobby at age fifteen, he began performing with the local literary theatre Varius. He attended schools in Tallinn, graduating as a carpenter and cabinet-maker from the Tallinn 12th Vocational Secondary School in 1988 and the same year he enrolled in the Performing Arts Department of the Tallinn State Conservatory (now, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), studying under instruction of theatre and film director Kalju Komissarov, and graduating in 1992. ... TV 4 (Estonian TV Channel)
TV4 is an Estonian sports channel, formerly owned Kalev Media and named Kalev Sport. Kalev Sport was launched in late 2007, offering viewers various sporting events, both domestic and international. TV4 was founded by Starman as a commercial-free channel in 2008. The two competing channels, Kanal 2 and TV3, saw it as a marketing strategy for Starman and, as consequence of that and its limited coverage, the potential audience was very low. It was renamed into TV4 and changed its owner after Kalev Media's bankruptcy. FX (Russian TV Channel)
FX (formerly Fox and Fox Crime) is a Russian-language pay television channel launched on 30 October 2007 in the Baltics and on 5 March 2008 in Russia and CIS countries. On 1 October 2012, the channel was renamed to Fox. In 2022, Disney announced the channel would cease broadcasting in Russia and Belarus, and would be replaced by Kineko. However, it continues to broadcast in the Baltics and CIS without advertising. The channel has rebranded to FX on 24 January 2024. History At the beginning of 2010, Eesti Autorite Ühing requested to close the channel, as it did not have a license agreement with EAÜ as of January 1, 2010. EAU was not willing to renew the contract, because Seitse TV channel had consistently violated the terms of the previous contract and delayed the payment of license fees. National Geographic Wild (shortened as Nat Geo Wild and abbreviated NGW) is a global pay television network owned by National Geographic Partners, a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (73%) and the National Geographic Society (27%). Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV. The series first aired on 30 October 1993 and was written by Astrid Reinla and as of 1996 by Teet Kallas. Rainer Kerge. Birgit Sarrap
Birgit Sarrap (; born 24 September 1988), also known mononymously as Birgit, is an Estonian singer. She rose to prominence in 2007 after winning the first season of '' Eesti otsib superstaari'', the Estonian version of '' Idol''. Her debut self-titled studio album was later released in 2008. Birgit has gone on to release four other studio albums in her career. Birgit represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song " Et uus saaks alguse" after winning '' Eesti Laul 2013''. She qualified for the grand final, where she placed 20th. Career She started her musical career as a choir singer on Estonian Television children's choir and learned the violin at Kohila Music School. Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National television channel Eesti Televisioon (ETV) has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service Zuum TV, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. TV3 is a commercial television channel targeted at an Estonian language audience owned by Providence Equity Partners. History It was founded in 1996 after two recently established television stations, EVTV and RTV, were merged. TV3 has two sister channels. TV6 is a television channel targeted at entertainment television channel in Estonia, launched in 2002. TV8 is an entertainment television channel, launched as a digital sister channel to TV3 in 2009. For several years, TV3 had better ratings than the other private channel, Kanal 2. The situation changed in 2006, when Kanal 2 made some big changes in their programme. TV3 ratings fell and shows had problems getting enough viewers to reach the Top 10 of the week. Later that year, programme director Jüri Pihel left TV3. ''Pop Idol'' is a British music competition television series created by Simon Fuller which ran on ITV from 2001 to 2003.
