2007 Polaris Music Prize
The 2007 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 24, 2007 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. The winning album was Patrick Watson (musician), Patrick Watson's ''Close to Paradise''. According to CBC News, "finalists were drawn from submissions by more than 170 music journalists, reviewers and broadcasters across Canada." Sebastian Bach
Sebastian Philip Bierk (born April 3, 1968), known professionally as Sebastian Bach, is a Canadian-American singer who achieved mainstream success as the frontman of the hard rock band Skid Row from 1987 to 1996. He has acted on Broadway and has made appearances in film and television such as '' Trailer Park Boys'' and ''Gilmore Girls''. He continues his music career as a solo artist. Early years Bach was born in the Bahamas and was raised in Peterborough, Ontario. He is one of eight children. His brother Zac Bierk is a retired ice hockey player. His father, David Bierk (d. 2002), was a noted painter. He painted one of Skid Row's album covers and inside cover art on another band album, and an album cover for one of Bach's solo records, and inside art for another solo effort. ''Uncover Me'' is the seventh album from Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden, released in 2007. "Counterfeit Heart" is the only track written by Jann Arden (co-written with SHeDAISY's Kristyn Osborn). Three additional tracks from these sessions, "Moon River", "What the World Needs Now", and "End of the World", are available from her Myspace site. The album was her best selling-record in Canada in a decade. Lead single "Bring the Boys Home" (originally by Freda Payne) became a Top 10 hit in her homeland. Further airplay singles "At Seventeen", "California Dreamin'" and "Son of a Preacher Man" were made popular by Janis Ian, the Mamas and the Papas, and Dusty Springfield respectively. Jann Arden
Jann Arden (born Jann Arden Anne Richards; March 27, 1962) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress. She is famous for her signature ballads, " Could I Be Your Girl" and " Insensitive", which is her biggest hit to date. Early life and education Jann Arden was born in Calgary and moved as a child to Springbank, Alberta, where she attended Springbank Community High School. Her father was a construction contractor and her mother was a dental assistant. She is the middle child of three children. Arden grew up in a troubled family dynamic. Her father was an abusive alcoholic. Her brother was convicted of first-degree murder and was incarcerated in Alberta in 1992. After she graduated high school, Arden settled in Vancouver and sang with a series of bar bands. Neon Bible (album) ''Neon Bible'' is the second studio album by Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire. It was first released on March 5, 2007, in Europe and a day later in North America by Merge Records. Originally announced on December 16, 2006, through the band's website, the majority of the album was recorded at a church the band bought and renovated in Farnham, Quebec.
