2003 Borno State Gubernatorial Election
The 2003 Borno State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003. Incumbent governor, ANPP's Ali Modu Sheriff won election for a second term, defeating AD's Mala Kachalla and three other candidates. Sheriff allegedly sought for Boko Haram's assistance to win the election. Ali Modu Sheriff emerged the ANPP candidate in the gubernatorial primary election. Ali Modu Sheriff
Ali Modu Sheriff (born 1956) is a Nigerian politician. He is Borno State's first governor to serve two consecutive terms (2003–2011). Though Sheriff had held two elected offices as a member of All Nigeria People's Party, he would later join the All Progressives Congress becoming a founding member of that party. In 2014, Sheriff switched affiliation to the People's Democratic Party. He acted as the National Working Committee chair from 16 February 2016 until the National Convention, when he was removed and replaced by Ahmed Makarfi. Kashim Ibrahim-Imam was born 8 May 1962, he is a Nigerian politician who was twice the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Governor of Borno State in 2003 and 2007, losing both times to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate Ali Modu Sheriff. Early career Ibrahim-Imam was born into a political family. His father, Ibrahim Imam was the motivating force of the progressive Borno Youth Movement. Borno State
Borno State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Yobe to the west, Gombe to the southwest, and Adamawa to the south while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon, its northern border forms part of the national border with Niger, and its northeastern border forms all of the national border with Chad, being the only Nigerian state to border three foreign countries.
