2007 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2007 Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament was the 29th edition of the Atlantic Sun Conference (A-Sun)'s Men's Basketball Tournament. It took place from March 1–3, 2007 at the Memorial Center on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Belmont University Bruins won the tournament, defeating the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers 94–67 in the final. Format The top eight eligible men's basketball teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference received a berth in the conference tournament. After the 20-game conference season, teams are seeded by conference record. ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center
ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center, previously known as the Memorial Center, and popularly referred to as the "Mini-Dome", is an 8,539-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Until 2014, it hosted ETSU's men's and women's basketball teams. It also serves as the indoor venue for tennis and track. At one time, the facility also hosted ETSU's football team, but the school discontinued its football program at the end of the 2003 season as a cost-cutting measure. The football team was reinstated in 2015, but did not return to the facility; the Buccaneers played the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Kermit Tipton Stadium, a local high school facility, before opening the new William B. 2006–07 Belmont Bruins Men's Basketball Team
The 2006–07 Belmont Bruins men's basketball team represented Belmont University in the 2006–07 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bruins, led by head coach Rick Byrd, played their home games at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee, as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. After finishing 2nd in the conference regular season standings, the Bruins won the Atlantic Sun tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the 15th seed in the East region. Rick Byrd
Richard F. Byrd (born April 30, 1953) is a retired American college basketball coach who served as the head coach of the Belmont Bruins men's basketball team from 1986-2019. On February 16, 2017, with the Bruins win over Eastern Kentucky, Byrd marked his 750th career win, 658 with Belmont. He retired after the 2018-2019 season with 805 wins, which ranks twelfth all-time among NCAA Division I men's basketball coaches. Early life Byrd grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where he would sit alongside his father, Ben Byrd, and watch him write articles on the Tennessee men's basketball games as a kid. The ASUN Conference, formerly the Atlantic Sun Conference, is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States. The league participates at the NCAA Division I level, and began sponsoring football at the Division I FCS level in 2022. Belmont University
Belmont University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee. The Belmont Bruins men's basketball team represents Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Courtney Pigram
Courtney Pigram (born November 14, 1985) is an American professional basketball player. Early life and college Pigram grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. While he was in high school, his father died. He had to work to attend East Tennessee State University, where he scored 2,041 points in his four years at the school. He left ETSU as the third leading scorer in school history behind Tim Smith and Greg Dennis. ASUN Men's Basketball Tournament
The ASUN Conference men's basketball tournament (formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament between 1979 and 2001) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the ASUN Conference, formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun Conference. The tournament has been held every year since 1979, except for 1992–93. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, as long as it is eligible for NCAA-sponsored postseason play.
