The 2006 World Weightlifting Championships were held at the Handball Pavilion and Weightlifting Pavilion Dr. José Joaquín Puello in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Shi Zhiyong (; born February 10, 1980, in Longyan, Fujian) is a Chinese weightlifter. Aslambek Ediev (born 4 January 1970) is a former Russian weightlifter, who competed in the 76 kg division from 1993 to 1998 until the International Weightlifting Federation changed the body weight categories, and then 85 kg after 1998. Andrei Rybakou
Andrei Rybakou () (born March 4, 1982) is a Belarusian former Olympic weightlifting, weightlifter, Olympian and two-time World Champion who competed in the 85 kg category. In 2016, after a retest of his 2008 samples tested positive for Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and Stanozolol his performance at the 2008 Olympic Games was disqualified, as well as his Olympic record and World record set during the competition. Oleg Perepetchenov (born September 6, 1975) is a Russian powerlifter and former weightlifter. In the 2001 and 2002 World Weightlifting Championships, Perepetchenov won the silver medal in the Men's 77 kg weight category. Perepetchenov competed in the Men's 77 kg at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal, lifting 365.0 kg in total. Ara Khachatryan (, born September 13, 1982) is an Armenian weightlifter. Biography Ara Khachatryan was born on September 13, 1982, in Leninakan, Armenian SSR (now Gyumri, Armenia), a city well known for its weightlifters. Under personal trainer Alexan Karapetyan and coach Boghos Poghosyan, Ara began weight training from an early age. Ara joined the Armenian national weightlifting team originally competing at a weight of 77 kg. Taner Sağır
Taner Sağır (born 13 March 1985 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria) is a Turkish world and Olympic weightlifting champion. Coming into Athens as holder of all the junior world records at the age of only 19, he broke the Olympic records in the category –77 kg snatch, clean and jerk and total. Demir Demirev (, born 31 August 1984) is a Bulgarian weightlifter. He is of Roma ethnicity. He participated in the men's -69 kg class at the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships and won the bronze medal, finishing behind Vencelas Dabaya and Shi Zhiyong.
