2006 World Masters (darts)
The 2006 Winmau World Masters was a darts tournament held at Leisure World in Bridlington between October 13-15, 2006. It also featured a qualifying event for the 2007 Lakeside World Professional Championship. Seventeen-year-old Michael van Gerwen became the youngest winner in the 32-year history of the event when he defeated England captain Martin Adams in the final. Friday October 13, 2006 Players from 30 countries played on a multi-board system to qualify for the stage matches to be played on Saturday and Sunday. Mervyn King (darts Player)
Mervyn King (born 15 March 1966) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He formerly competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) tournaments. Nicknamed The King, he reached seven PDC premier event finals and a peak ranking of world number four in the PDC Order of Merit. In the BDO he was the 2004 Winmau World Masters winner, and both the Finder Masters and International Darts League champion in 2005, becoming the former BDO world number one during 2000 and 2005. He was the runner-up at the BDO World Darts Championship in both 2002 and 2004 as well as at the 2000 World Masters. Co Stompé
Jacobus Wilhelmus "Co" Stompé (born 10 September 1962) is a Dutch former professional darts player. He was nicknamed The Matchstick because of his almost bald head and very thin appearance. He was also one of very few darts professionals, who played in long sleeved shirts. Darts career BDO For years, Stompé was considered the third best Dutch darts player behind Raymond van Barneveld and Roland Scholten. After reaching the semi-finals of the 2000 World Championship, he dropped back behind a younger emerging Dutch group of players. Paul Hogan (darts Player)
Paul Hogan (born 30 August 1963) is an English professional darts player who plays in events of the World Darts Federation. He is nicknamed " Crocodile Dundee" after the film starring his namesake, Australian actor Paul Hogan. Career Hogan made his World Championship debut in 1995, reaching the quarter-finals. He beat Per Skau and Sean Palfrey before losing to Richie Burnett who went on to win the tournament. He returned the next year but couldn't repeat his performance of twelve months earlier, losing in the first round to Matt Clark. He failed to qualify for 1997 and 98 but did so for the 1999 World Championship, but again lost in the first round to Colin Monk. It wouldn't be until 2004 where Hogan would return to the Lakeside, beating Bob Taylor in the first round but lost in the second round to then-reigning World Champion Raymond van Barneveld. John Cullen (darts Player)
Barry John Cullen (born August 2, 1964) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played college ice hockey for the Boston University Terriers, where he was a standout player, and is the school's all-time leading scorer. After the Buffalo Sabres selected him in the 1986 NHL supplemental draft but chose not to offer him a contract, Cullen signed with the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League (IHL) for the 1987–88 season, where he was named the IHL's co-Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player after leading the league in scoring. His career was halted in 1997 when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Andy Fordham
Andrew Fordham (2 February 1962 – 15 July 2021) was an English professional darts player, commonly known as The Viking. He won the 2004 BDO World Darts Championship and the 1999 Winmau World Masters. Darts career Fordham made his first appearance on the stage at Lakeside in the 1995 BDO World Darts Championship and reached the semi-finals before losing to Richie Burnett. Another semi-final defeat followed in 1996, this time to Steve Beaton. On both these occasions, his victor then went on to claim the title. Second round defeats followed in 1997 (to Marshall James) and 1998 (to Raymond van Barneveld) before Fordham made it to the semi-final stage of the World Championship for third time in 1999, but was defeated by Ronnie Baxter.
