The 2006 Texas General Election was held on Tuesday, 7 November 2006, in the United States, U.S. state of Texas. Voters statewide elected the Governor of Texas, Governor, Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Lieutenant Governor, Texas Attorney General, Attorney General, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Comptroller of Public Accounts, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, Commissioner of Agriculture, and one Railroad Commission of Texas, Railroad Commissioner. The Democratic Party is a Centre-left politics, center-left political parties in the United States, political party in the United States. Carole Keeton Strayhorn
Carole Stewart Keeton (September 13, 1939 – March 26, 2025), formerly known as Carole Keeton McClellan, Carole Keeton Rylander and Carole Keeton Strayhorn, was an American politician who served as Texas's Comptroller of Public Accounts from 1999 to 2007. Elected to the comptroller's post in 1998 as a Republican, Keeton ran as an independent candidate for Texas governor against Republican incumbent Rick Perry in 2006. She lost the November general election to Perry and placed third in a six-way race, with 18 percent. Keeton was notable for several firsts in Austin and Texas politics. She was the first and so far, only woman elected as Mayor of Austin and the first Austin mayor elected to three consecutive terms. Chris Bell (politician)
Robert Christopher Bell (born November 23, 1959) is an American politician, attorney, and former journalist. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law. Bell served five years on the Houston City Council from 1997 to 2001, followed by one term in the United States House of Representatives from Texas's 25th congressional district, Texas's 25th Congressional District in Houston from 2003 to 2005. James Richard Perry (born March 4, 1950) is an American politician who served as the 14th United States secretary of energy from 2017 to 2019 in the first administration of Donald Trump. He previously served as the 47th governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015 and ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for president of the United States in the 2012 and 2016 elections. Barbara Ann Radnofsky (born July 8, 1956) is an American Democratic politician, author and mediator from the U.S. state of Texas. She was the first woman to have won the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas. Early life and career Radnofsky was born in Broomall, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Houston and entered the University of Houston at age 16 on a National Merit four-year academic scholarship. She received her B.A. in 1976, graduating ''magna cum laude''. She then attended law school at the University of Texas School of Law, graduating with honors in 1979. Radnofsky has three children with her husband, Ed Supkis, a doctor. Radnofsky left her partnership at Vinson Elkins, LLP, to become the first woman Texas Democratic U.S. Senate nominee and later the first woman Texas Democratic Attorney General nominee.
