2006 Rally Australia
The 2006 Telstra Rally Australia was the fourteenth round of the 2006 World Rally Championship season. It took place between 26 and 29 October 2006. Report Ford's Mikko Hirvonen won the rally, taking his first victory of his career. His teammate Marcus Grönholm was only the Fifth to mathematically give the world championship to Sébastien Loeb, who was out of this race due to injury. Grönholm hit a rock, resulting in him losing eleven minutes and falling to 55th place. In order to maintain his chances for the championship, Grönholm had to rise to at least third place, but he was only able to collect four points, so Loeb, who witnessed the rally from home, celebrated the championship with two more races left. Rally Australia
Rally Australia is an automobile rally event which was held in Coffs Harbour as the final leg of the World Rally Championship (WRC) until 2018. First run in 1988, the rally was held in and around Perth, Western Australia until 2006. It was part of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship in 1988 and the WRC from 1989 to 2006. The rally returned in 2009 to the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales in early September and alternated with Rally New Zealand for 2010 and 2012 before becoming an annual fixture again in its own right from 2013. From 2011 the event was relocated to Coffs Harbour. , the Rally Australia event did not have a contract with WRC to be part of the World Championship beyond 2019. Carlos del Barrio (born 15 August 1968) is a Spanish rally co-driver. He is currently teamed with Dani Sordo and is competing for Hyundai in the World Rally Championship. Rally career Carlos del Barrio began his rally career in 1991, co-driving for several drivers. In 2011, he formed a partnership with Dani Sordo in Mini WRC Team. Dean Herridge (born 23 August 1976) is an Australian rally driver. He finished eighth on the 2006 Rally Australia, scoring one World Rally Championship point. Career Herridge began rallying in 1994. He contested his first World Rally Championship event the following year on Rally Australia in a Hyundai Lantra, retiring from the rally. Mirco Baldacci (born 19 September 1977) is a rally driver from San Marino, who scored two World Rally Championship points by finishing seventh on the 2006 Rally Australia. Career Baldacci made his World Rally Championship debut on Rallye Sanremo in 2000 behind the wheel of a Renault Clio Williams. In 2001 he contested five rounds of the Production World Rally Championship in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI. In 2002 he contested the Junior World Rally Championship in a Citroën Saxo S1600, finishing fourth in class on Rallye Deutschland and 13th in the final standings.
