The terms of all eight representatives to the United States House of Representatives expired on January 3, 2007, and therefore all were put up for contest. Incumbent Republican Governor Bob Ehrlich ran for a second term, but was defeated by the Democratic nominee, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley.
