World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships. By this logic, the 2006 competition in Zagreb was called the 49th ISSF World Shooting Championships. These championships, including all ISSF shooting events, are held every four years since 1954. Per Sandberg (sport Shooter)
Per Sandberg (born 6 February 1960) is a Norwegian politician for the Capitalist Party and formerly the Progress Party who served as the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries from 2015 to 2018. Sandberg was a member of the Norwegian parliament from 1997 to 2017 (2005–2017 from the Sør-Trøndelag constituency, and before that from Nord-Trøndelag), and served as chair of the parliamentary standing committees on Justice, and Transport and Communications. He has additionally held the position of first deputy leader of the Progress Party from 2006 to 2018. In 1997 he was convicted of assault and battery of an asylum seeker. His status as a convicted felon has made him controversial in Norwegian politics. Thomas Farnik
Thomas Farnik, born 6 January 1967 in Vienna, is an Austrian rifle shooter. He was twelve years old when his father introduced him to shooting. He started with a rifle, and his father remained involved with his early training. He competed at six consecutive Olympics from 1992 to 2012. His best position was fifth in the Three Positions at the 2008 Olympics, when he was 2.8 points behind the bronze medal score of 1271.7. He also came sixth in the 10m Air Rifle at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 50m Three Positions at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He won gold in the 10m Air Rifle at the 2006 ISSF World Cup, setting a world record of 703.1 at the finals in Granada that survived till 2008 (when it was broken by Gagan Narang). 300 M Standard Rifle
300 m standard rifle is one of the ISSF shooting events. It is similar to 300 metre rifle three positions, 300 metre rifle but there are more restrictions on the rifle (quite similar to those in 10 metre air rifle). The course of fire is a three positions program of 3x20 shots. This event is based in competitions with Shooting competitions for factory and service firearms, army-style rifles, and in this form dates back at least to the 19th century, although the early championships had a true army rifle event, using the model of the host country's choice. The standard rifle event as such was introduced in 1947. 300 metre standard rifle is also on the program of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire, CISM military world championships. Rajmond Debevec
Rajmond Debevec (born 29 March 1963) is a Slovenian sport shooter. He has won three Olympic and ten World Championship medals in shooting. He formerly held the world record in the 50 meter rifle 3 positions event. Career Debevec started shooting in 1971 and became a member of the Yugoslavian junior national team in 1979. Debevec joined the Military Sport Squad of the Slovenian Army in 1991 and holds the rank of Warrant Officer. Olympic Games He won his first medal in 1980 by participating in the Junior European Championships. He represented Yugoslavia at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988, and Slovenia in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. Péter Sidi (born 11 September 1978 in Komárom) is a Hungarian sport shooter. He has been world champion in the 50 m rifle 3 positions, as well as winning silver medals in the 300 m rifle prone and the men's 10 metre air rifle. 300 Metre Rifle Prone
300 m rifle prone (formerly known as one of four free rifle disciplines) is an ISSF shooting event. It was added to the World Championship program in 1982, and was based on the English Match but shot with the same full-power rifle as in 300 metre rifle three positions. The course of fire, like in the small-bore 50 metre rifle prone, is 60 shots for both men and women. 300 m rifle has been a declining event for many decades because of the considerable cost for competing in the event and the difficulty of creating ranges for it. 300 metre Rifle is still on the World and regional championships program, though. 300 Metre Rifle Three Positions
300 m rifle three positions (formerly known as one of four free rifle disciplines) is an ISSF shooting event, involving shooting 40 shots each from the prone, the standing and the kneeling positions. Men and women both shoot the same number of shots, though previously women only shot half the course – or 20 shots in each position. Originally there had been champions declared in each position based on the results of the 40 shots in the three position match. A special 300 metre rifle prone match was added in 1982 however, after a pattern from the so-called English Match. After 1990, no World Championship medals have been awarded in the standing or kneeling position. History 300 m rifle has been a declining event for many decades because of the considerable cost for competing in the event and the difficulty of creating ranges for it.
