2006 Arizona Wildcats Softball Team
The 2006 Arizona Wildcats softball team represented the University of Arizona in the 2006 NCAA Division I softball season. The Wildcats were coached by Mike Candrea, who led his twenty-first season. The Wildcats finished with a record of 54–11. They played their home games at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium and competed in the Pacific-10 Conference, where they finished second with a 15–6 record. The Wildcats were invited to the 2006 NCAA Division I softball tournament, where they won the Regional and Super Regional and then completed a run through the Women's College World Series to claim their seventh NCAA Women's College World Series Championship. Mike Candrea
John Michael Candrea (born August 29, 1955) is the former head softball coach at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He was the head coach of the United States women's national softball team in 2004, when Team USA won a gold medal, and in 2008, bringing home silver. At the time of his retirement in 2021, Candrea was the all-time winningest coach in college softball history, and ranked fourth of any coach in any NCAA sport with 1,674 wins. Education and career beginnings Born in New Orleans, Candrea moved with his family to Phoenix at age seven. He graduated from Sunnyslope High School and later earned an associate degree at Central Arizona College in 1975, a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University in 1978, and a master's degree from Arizona State in 1980. Easton Stadium is a college softball stadium on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles. Levine-Fricke Field is a college softball stadium in Berkeley, California, on the campus of the University of California. Opened in 1995, it is the home field of the California Golden Bears of the Pac-12, with a seating capacity of 1,204. Jane Sanders Stadium, nicknamed "The Jane", is an outdoor softball stadium in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Located on the south side of the University of Oregon (UO) campus at 18th and University, it is the home field of the Oregon Ducks of the Pac-12 Conference. Robert C. "Bob" Sanders donated more than $16 million to build the stadium, a memorial to his late wife Jane Sanders, who had been a longtime fan of Ducks softball.
