2006 American Le Mans Series
The 2006 American Le Mans Series season was the 36th season for the International Motor Sports Association, IMSA GT Championship, with the eighth as the American Le Mans Series. It was a series for Le Mans Prototypes (LMP) and Grand Touring (GT) race cars divided into 4 classes: LMP1, LMP2, GT1, and GT2. It began March 18, 2006, and ended October 21, 2006 after 10 races. Pre-season Among the biggest announcements prior to the start of the 2006 season was that Audi would continue their involvement in the ALMS with their new Audi R10 TDI, R10 TDI diesel engined LMP1 with the car making its international racing debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in preparation for 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans. Audi followed up this announcement with plans for a single Audi R8 to go on a farewell tour for the first few races after Sebring, and then be replaced by two new R10 TDI after Le Mans for the rest of the ALMS season. American Le Mans Series
The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) was a sports car racing series based in the United States and Canada. It consisted of a series of Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance and sprint races, and was created in the spirit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The American Le Mans' headquarters was in Braselton, Georgia, adjacent to Road Atlanta. In 2014, the series merged with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series to form the IMSA SportsCar Championship, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. History The series was created by Braselton, Georgia-based businessman Don Panoz and ran its first season in 1999. Dodge Viper GTS-R
The Dodge Viper is a sports car that was manufactured by Dodge (by SRT for 2013 and 2014), a division of American car manufacturer Chrysler from 1992 until 2017, having taken a brief hiatus in 2007 and from 2011 to 2012. Production of the two-seat sports car began at New Mack Assembly Plant in 1991 and moved to Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in October 1995. Although Chrysler considered ending production because of serious financial problems, on September 14, 2010, then–chief executive Sergio Marchionne announced and previewed a new model of the Viper for 2012. Champ Car World Series (CCWS) was the series sanctioned by Open-Wheel Racing Series Inc., a Governing body, sanctioning body for American open-wheel car racing that operated from 2004 to 2008. It was the successor to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), which sanctioned open-wheel racing from 1979 until dissolving after the 2003 season. Vehicles Champ Cars were single-seat, open-wheel racing cars, with Mid-engine design, mid-mounted engines. Champ cars had sculpted undersides to create ground effect in cars, ground effect and prominent wings to create downforce. The cars would use a different aerodynamic kit on the occasions they raced on an oval. NRG Park, formerly Reliant Park and Astrodomain, is a complex in Houston, named after the energy company NRG Energy. It is located on Kirby Drive at the South Loop West Freeway ( I-610). This complex of buildings encompasses of land and consists of four venues: NRG Stadium, NRG Center, NRG Arena and NRG Astrodome. The complex hosts many sporting events and conventions each year, the largest of which are Houston Texans home games, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The complex is served by the Stadium Park / Astrodome station, a light rail station on the Red Line of the METRORail light rail system. It includes one of the world's largest parking lots, with 26,000 places, and hosts nearly 750 events yearly. The Ferrari F430 (Type F131) is a sports car produced by the Italian automobile manufacturer Ferrari from 2004 until 2009 as a successor to the Ferrari 360.
