2005–06 AFC Ajax Season
During the 2005–06 Dutch football season AFC Ajax participated in the 2005–06 Eredivisie, Eredivisie, the 2005–06 KNVB Cup, KNVB Cup and the 2005–06 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Champions League. The first training took place on 3 July 2005. The traditional AFC Ajax Open Day was on 3 August 2005. Pre-season The first training for the 2005–06 season was held on 3 July 2005. In preparation for the new season, Ajax organized a training camp in De Lutte, Netherlands, at the De Thij Sportpark. During the pre-season, the squad from manager Danny Blind played friendly matches against DWV, WHC Wezep, WHC, Quick '20, HHC Hardenberg, Rijnsburgse Boys, Fortuna Sittard, Arminia Bielefeld and Almere City F.C., FC Omniworld. They then returned to Amsterdam to play Arsenal F.C., Arsenal and Boca Juniors in the annual Amsterdam Tournament. HHC Hardenberg
Hardenberg Heemse Combinatie, commonly known as HHC Hardenberg, is a football club based in Hardenberg, Netherlands. The team compete in the Tweede Divisie, the third level of the Dutch football league system. History HHC Hardenberg was founded in 1954, as the result of a merger between ''Hardenberg Voetbal Club'' of Hardenberg en ''SV Heemse'' of neighbouring Heemse. The letters HHC stand for ''Hardenberg Heemse Combinatie'' (Hardenberg Heemse Combination). Tomáš Galásek
Tomáš Galásek (; born 15 January 1973) is a former Czech football midfielder and current manager. He is the only player to witness both silver goals ever scored in European football, scoring the first for Ajax. Club career Galásek started his career with Banik Ostrava in 1991, before moving to Willem II Tilburg in 1997. With Willem II, he reached an historic fifth place in Eredivisie, which meant UEFA Cup qualification for the first time in 30 years. Since then, he played four UEFA Cup matches. In 1998–99, Willem II exceeded the previous year's performance, finishing second in the league. For the first time in history, Willem II qualified for the UEFA Champions League. John Heitinga
John Gijsbert Alan "Johnny" Heitinga (born 15 November 1983) is a Dutch football coach and former player who is currently the assistant manager at Premier League club Liverpool. He will become the manager of Eredivisie club Ajax on 1 July 2025. A product of the Ajax Youth Academy, he played for their first squad from 2001 to 2008. After a one-year spell at Atlético Madrid in Spain, he signed for Everton in 2009. Zdeněk Grygera (; born 14 May 1980) is a Czech former professional footballer who played as a defender. He spent his early professional football career in the Czech Republic before moving abroad to play for Ajax in the Netherlands, Juventus in Italy and Fulham in England. Grygera also represented the Czech Republic national football team at two UEFA European Championships (2004 and 2008) as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Hatem Trabelsi (; born 25 January 1977) is a Tunisian former professional footballer who played as a right-back for CS Sfaxien, Ajax and Manchester City At international level, he played for the Tunisia national team in three World Cups, gaining a total of 66 caps before retiring from international football in 2006. Club career Born in Ariana, Tunisia, Trabelsi grew up in Sfax, and started his football career with his home town club Sfaxien, where he initially played as a forward. Maarten Stekelenburg
Maarten Stekelenburg (; born 22 September 1982) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Stekelenburg began his career at Ajax, playing 282 matches over nine seasons in his first spell there and winning nine honours, including two Eredivisie titles. He went on to play for Roma, Fulham, Monaco, Southampton and Everton. He returned to Ajax after the expiry of his contract at Everton following the 2019–20 Premier League season. The Amsterdam Tournament () was a pre-season association football competition, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The competition was hosted by Eredivisie club AFC Ajax, Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena. It was inaugurated in 1975 as the Amsterdam 700 Tournament to celebrate 700 years of history in the city. It was held annually each summer until 1992, when the last edition of the original tournament was played. It returned in 1999 with the backing of the International Event Partnership (IEP). Four teams participate in the competition, played in a league format since 1986. Since its return, the tournament has used an unusual point scoring system.
