The 2005 Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain was the fourth round of the 2005 Speedway Grand Prix season (the world championship). It took place on 11 June 2005 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. It was the 11th time that the Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain had been held. The Grand Prix was by the Swedish rider Tony Rickardsson (his 17th career Grand Prix win and third of the 2005 campaign). Millennium Stadium
The Millennium Stadium (), known since 2016 as the Principality Stadium () for sponsorship reasons, is the national stadium of Wales. Located in Cardiff, it has a retractable roof and is the home of the Wales national rugby union team; it has also held Wales national football team games. Simon Trevor Stead (born 25 April 1982) is a retired motorcycle speedway rider and team manager. He earned 11 international caps for the Great Britain national speedway team. From 2019, he has been joint manager of the Great Britain team with Oliver Allen (speedway rider), Oliver Allen. Career Summary Born in Sheffield, Stead started his career at local track Sheffield Tigers before riding for Buxton Hitmen, Peterborough Panthers and Workington Comets. In 1999 and 2000, he was part of the Sheffield four that won the Premier League Four-Team Championship. Edward Kennett
Edward David Kennett (born 28 August 1986 in Hastings, England) is a motorcycle speedway rider. He was the British Under-21 Champion in 2005 and has appeared in two Speedway Grand Prix as a wild card. He has recently retired from the sport due to injury. Family Kennett's father Dave, was a motorcycle speedway rider who rode for the Eastbourne Eagles, Hackney Hawks, Newport Wasps and the White City Rebels. His uncle Gordon Kennett represented Great Britain, and rode for many clubs. Another uncle, Brian (Barney) Kennett, rode mainly in the British League Division Two/National League for the Canterbury Crusaders during the 1970s and 1980s. David Norris (speedway Rider)
David Michael Norris (born 20 August 1972, in Eastbourne, England) is a former British international motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 20 international caps for the England national speedway team and 8 caps for the Great Britain team. Career Norris had stints with Reading Racers and Ipswich Witches, but primarily rode for the Eastbourne Eagles in the British League, Premier League, and Elite League. In 2007, he overtook Gordon Kennett as the Eagles' leading scorer, accumulating 5,197 points from just 577 meetings. As an Eastbourne rider, he twice averaged over 9, in 1994 (9.18) and 2004 (9.95). Jason Philip Crump (born 6 August 1975) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Australia (UK born). He is a three-time Speedway World Champion, and a World Cup winner. In a 21-year career in Speedway, Crump finished with seven World Championship titles to his name (four individual, including the U/21 title, and three teams), making him one of the most successful Australian motorcycle racers of all time. Lee Stewart Richardson (25 April 1979 – 13 May 2012) was a British international motorcycle speedway rider. Career Richardson made his British debut for the Reading Racers in 1995. Richardson represented Great Britain speedway team, Great Britain at senior and under-21 level and featured in several Speedway World Cup, World Cup tournaments. Richardson was World Under 21 champion in 1999. In October 2002, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the 2002 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification, GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2003 Speedway Grand Prix, 2003 Grand Prix. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970, in Whittier, California) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions and earned 39 caps for the United States national speedway team. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three time world champion having won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He has also won the World Cup with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Career Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He stayed at the club until a move to in 1998 to Holstebro, the same year that he made his British league debut with Newcastle Diamonds in the 1998 Premier League speedway season.
