2005 Kansas City Chiefs
The 2005 NFL season, 2005 season was the Kansas City Chiefs' 36th in the National Football League (NFL), their 46th overall, and their fifth and final season under head coach Dick Vermeil. The team improved on their 7–9 record from 2004 Kansas City Chiefs season, 2004 to a decent 10–6 record, but missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Chiefs became the sixth 10–6 team to fail to qualify for the playoffs since the National Football League, NFL introduced the wild card (sports), wild card. The Chiefs drafted Derrick Johnson and Dustin Colquitt in the 2005 NFL draft. Both players would eventually become fan favorites. The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division comprises the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. Derrick Johnson
Derrick O'Hara Johnson (born November 22, 1982) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, twice earning consensus All-American honors. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft with the 15th overall pick. In his 13 seasons with the Chiefs, he made four Pro Bowls. He also played six games for the Oakland Raiders. Early life Johnson was born in Waco, Texas. He attended Waco High School, where he was a three-sport star in football, track and basketball. Invesco Field At Mile High
Empower Field at Mile High is an American football stadium in Denver, Colorado. Its primary tenant is the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). It opened in 2001 to replace the Broncos' original home, the old Mile High Stadium. The venue was previously home of the Denver Outlaws lacrosse team and the Colorado Rapids soccer team. It has also played host to many concerts and served as the venue for Barack Obama's acceptance of the Democratic presidential nomination at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. 2005 Oakland Raiders Season
The Oakland Raiders season was the franchise's 36th season in the National Football League (NFL), the 46th overall, the 11th back in Oakland, and the second and final under head coach Norv Turner. They were unable to improve upon their previous season's output of 5–11, instead only going 4–12. The team finished the season on a six-game losing streak. The Raiders acquired Randy Moss from the Minnesota Vikings in a trade for linebacker Napoleon Harris and a first-round draft pick. The acquisition of Moss sought to help with the team's struggling receiving corps for the past two years. Patrick Frank Surtain Sr. ( ; born June 19, 1976) is an American football coach and former professional player who was a cornerback for 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). The San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's 36th season in the National Football League (NFL), and the 46th overall. The Chargers failed to improve on their 12–4 record in 2004, and finished the campaign 9–7 and 3rd overall in their division, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
