2005 Race Of Champions
The 2005 Race of Champions took place on December 3 again at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, Seine-Saint-Denis, Saint-Denis. The individual event was won by Sébastien Loeb after Tom Kristensen (racing driver), Tom Kristensen crashed out of the final, and the Nations Cup event by Tom Kristensen (racing driver), Tom Kristensen and Mattias Ekström representing Scandinavia. Changes from the past included a number of Wild card (sports)#Motorsport, wild card drivers, the use of the Porsche 911 GT3 instead of the Ferrari 360 Modena and the introduction of the Renault Mégane, Renault Mégane Trophy alongside the Citroën Xsara WRC and now traditional "ROC Buggy" as competition cars. World Rally Championship
The World Rally Championship (abbreviated as WRC) is an international rallying series owned and governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA. Inaugurated in 1973, it is the oldest FIA world championship after Formula One. Each season lasts one calendar year, and typically consists of 13 three- to four-day rally events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice. Each rally is usually split into 15–25 Special stage (rallying), special stages which are run against the clock on up to of closed roads. Separate championship titles are awarded to drivers, co-drivers and manufacturers. There are also two support championships, WRC2 and WRC3, which are contested on the same events and stages as the WRC, but with progressively lower maximum performance and running costs of the cars permitted. Richard Burns
Richard Alexander Burns (17 January 1971 – 25 November 2005) was an English rally driver who won the 2001 World Rally Championship, having previously finished runner-up in the series in 1999 and 2000. He also helped Mitsubishi to the world manufacturers' title in 1998, and Peugeot in 2002. His co-driver in his whole career was Robert Reid. He is the only Englishman to have won the World Rally Championship as a driver. Career Pre-WRC Richard Burns was born in Reading, Berkshire, and grew up in Checkendon, Oxfordshire. At the age of eight he first started driving his father's old Triumph 2000 in a field near their house. At eleven Burns joined the Under 17 Car Club, where he became driver of the year in 1984. 1962 British Saloon Car Championship
The 1962 BRSCC British Saloon Car Championship, was the fifth season of the championship. It began at Snetterton on 14 April and finished at Oulton Park on 1 September. Rhodesian driver John Love became the first non-British BSCC winner, driving a Morris Mini Cooper and an Austin Mini Cooper, making it the second consecutive championship win for a Mini driver. John Love (racing Driver)
John Maxwell Lineham Love (7 December 1924 – 25 April 2005) was a Rhodesian racing driver. He participated in 10 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 29 December 1962. He achieved one podium, and scored a total of six championship points. He also won the 1962 British Saloon Car Championship, now known as the British Touring Car Championship. All but one of his Formula One entries were in races held within Africa, either as championship or non-championship rounds. Love was born in Bulawayo. He attended Gifford High School. Maurice Bienvenu Jean Paul Trintignant (; 30 October 1917 – 13 February 2005) was a French racing driver and winemaker, who competed in Formula One from to . Trintignant won two Formula One Grands Prix across 15 seasons. In endurance racing, Trintignant won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in with Ferrari. Trintignant competed in Formula One for 11 teams, winning two Grands Prix across 15 seasons. He finished fourth in the and World Drivers' Championships with Ferrari. 2005 GP2 Series
The 2005 GP2 Series season was the thirty-ninth season of the second-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also first season under the GP2 Series moniker. The season started in Imola, Italy on 23 April, and ended in Sakhir, Bahrain on 30 September. The season was won by the German Nico Rosberg, with the Finn Heikki Kovalainen finishing second. 2005 was the first season of the newly renamed Formula One feeder series, from Formula 3000 to GP2. The inaugural season did not feature reigning F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, because the Italian was driving for Red Bull Racing in Formula One.
