2005 Eneco Tour
The 2005 Eneco Tour of Benelux road cycling race took place from August 3 to August 10. The Eneco tour is the continuation of the Tour of the Netherlands. This first edition covered parts of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. 184 cyclists and 23 cycling teams participated. 20 are UCI ProTour teams, the three remaining are Shimano Memory-Corp and the Belgian teams MrBookmaker and Chocolade Jacques. The winner, Bobby Julich (), won the last stage, an individual time trial with a time of 31'14". This launched him from the twelfth place 12 to the first. Leif Hoste (), thirteenth, became second. Max van Heeswijk (DSC) wore the red jersey two days (the 2nd and the 3rd) and Rik Verbrugghe five days. This edition was somewhat tainted by an incident during stage 4. Near Stavelot, the peloton were sent in the wrong direction, while the handful of men ahead were on the correct course. 2005 UCI ProTour
The 2005 ProTour was the first year of the newly introduced UCI ProTour system, in which the ProTour teams are guaranteed, and obliged to, participate in the series of ProTour races. In certain ways the ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series of one-day races, which in 2004 was won by one-day specialist Paolo Bettini for the third time in a row. The beginning of the ProTour saw difficult negotiations with the organizers of the Grand Tour (cycling), Grand Tours, the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España. Rik Verbrugghe
Rik Verbrugghe (born 23 July 1974) is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist. Verbrugghe was born in Tienen, Flemish Brabant. In 1996, he turned professional, and he has since become a Belgian time trial champion, competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics, won a stage at the Tour de France, three stages at the Giro d'Italia, and the one-day Ardennes classics– La Flèche Wallonne, and the overall and two stages of the Critérium International. In 2008 he announced his retirement, and subsequent role as team director at Quick Step during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. In 2011 he became team director at BMC Racing Team. Allan Davis (cyclist)
Allan Howard Davis (born 27 July 1980) is an Australian former professional road racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI ProTour team . Born in Ipswich, Queensland, Davis resides in Bundaberg, Queensland and in Spain. Known for his sprinting ability, he started competitive cycling at the age of 10, and turned professional in 2002. He is also the brother of fellow cyclist, Scott Davis, and was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Career In 2004 and 2005 he participated in the Tour de France, coming fifth in the points classification at the 2005 Tour de France behind the winner, Thor Hushovd of Norway, and fellow Australians Stuart O'Grady (2nd) and Robbie McEwen (3rd), and Kazakh champion Alexander Vinokourov (4th). Sergei Valeryevich Ivanov () (born 5 March 1975) is a former professional road bicycle racer, who competed between 1996 and 2011. Ivanov had been a member of six different teams, competing for CSKA Lada–Samara, TVM–Farm Frites, Fassa Bortolo, T-Mobile Team, and . Andreas Klier
Andreas Klier (born 15 January 1976) is a retired German professional road racing cyclist. He competed professionally between 1996 and 2013. Klier moved into a managerial role with his final professional team, , after announcing his retirement as a rider on 13 May 2013. As of 2024 he remains a sports director with its successor team EF Education–EasyPost. Born in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Klier currently resides in the Balearic Island of Majorca. In April 2011, during a training ride, he avoided a collision with a car, from that moment onwards he had a bit of oak installed into his bike frame and thus could avoid accidents by touching wood. Bikes were sold with oak to raise money for the Plant for the Planet charity. On 15 August 2013, Klier admitted he used performance-enhancing drugs between 1999 and 2006. Jurgen Van den Broeck (born 1 February 1983) is a Belgian former road bicycle racer, who competed professionally between 2004 and 2017 for the , , and squads. Carlos Barredo
Carlos Barredo Llamazales (born 5 June 1981, in Oviedo, Asturias) is a Spanish former road racing cyclist, who competed as a professional between 2004 and 2012. He was issued a suspension for the first two months of the 2011 season in response to a fight with Rui Costa after a 2010 Tour de France stage, with Barredo claiming that Costa had ridden dangerously in the final stages of the race, but later apologising for his actions. Doping Barredo was suspended by on 18 October 2012 after the UCI opened proceedings for apparent violations of the Anti-Doping Rules on the basis of the information provided by the blood profile in his biological passport. In December of that year, he told Spanish newspaper ''El País'' that he was retiring from cycling and that he was starting a new job in a café in Madrid. Michael Blaudzun
Michael Blaudzun (born 30 April 1973 in Herning) is a Danish former professional road bicycle racer. Michael is the son of 1972 Summer Olympics track cycling bronze medalist Verner Blaudzun and a strong individual time trial rider who has won the Danish national championship in that discipline in 2001, 2003 and 2005. After Michael Blaudzun won the 1994 Danish Road Racing Championship while riding for amateur team Herning CK, he was signed for the remainder of the 1994 season as a '' stagiaire'' at professional team Word Perfect. For the 1995 season, the Word Perfect team changed its name to ''Novell'', and Michael Blaudzun turned professional for the outfit, riding for the team until 1997, by which time the team had once again changed its name to ''Rabobank''. Thomas Dekker (cyclist)
Thomas Dekker (born 6 September 1984) is a Dutch former professional road racing cyclist. His career highlights included winning Tirreno–Adriatico in 2006 and Tour de Romandie in 2007. He won two Dutch National Time Trial Championships and represented his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece. A few days before the start of the 2009 Tour de France, it was announced that Dekker had tested positive for EPO in a retroactive test carried out on a urine sample taken in December 2007. Dekker initially protested his innocence but he later admitted to using EPO, claiming it was a one-time mistake. He eventually admitted to using EPO over at least parts of the 2007 and 2008 seasons, although he declined to give exact dates. Dekker was suspended for two years, from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2011.
