2004–05 World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings
The 2004–05 World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings is the 2004–05 edition of the World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings. It is an assessment of racehorses which was issued by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) in August 2005. It includes horses aged three or older which raced or were trained during 2004–05 in countries where the flat racing year runs from August 1 to July 31 (and also South America, where it runs from July 1 to June 30). These countries are generally in the Southern Hemisphere, although some areas covered, such as Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, are actually north of the equator. The ratings represent a weight value in pounds, with higher values given to horses which showed greater ability. It is judged that these weights would equalize the abilities of the horses if carried in a theoretical handicap race. World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings
The Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings (LWBRR), known as World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings (WTRR) before 2012, are horseracing's equivalent to World Rankings by other major sporting organizations such as ATP Tennis Rankings, World Golf Rankings, FIFA World Rankings for soccer and IRB Rugby World Rankings. The Longines Rankings are based on the rating earned by horses running worldwide from North and South America, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, Asia through to Australia and New Zealand. The ratings are compiled under the auspices of The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) by racing officials & handicappers representing the five continents who compile the ranking order by agreeing on the rating for each horse. Gelding
A gelding (Help:IPA/English, /ˈɡɛldɪŋ/) is a castration, castrated male horse or other equine, such as a pony, donkey or a mule. The term is also used with certain other animals and livestock, such as domesticated Camelidae, camels. By comparison, the equivalent term for castrated male cattle would be List of cattle terminology , ''steer'' (or ''bullock''), and Wether (other), ''wether'' for sheep and goats. Castration allows a male animal to be more calm, better-behaved, less sexually aggressive, and more responsive to training efforts. Savabeel
Savabeel is a retired Australian Thoroughbred race horse and active sire. He is best known for his win in the 2004 Cox Plate. He was trained by Graeme Rogerson, and ridden by Chris Munce in his most important wins. Breeding Savabeel, foaled on 23 September 2001, is a brown horse sired by champion New Zealand sire Zabeel out of the multiple Group winner Savannah Success. Savannah Success had won the 1999 New Zealand Oaks and Ansett Australia Stakes at Group 1 level and the Surround Stakes (Group 2) as well as a number of other Group and listed New Zealand races. Racing career In Spring 2004 he won the race considered the Weight for Age Championship of Australasia, the Cox Plate, beating the previous year's winner Fields of Omagh. Fastnet Rock (horse)
Fastnet Rock is an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse stallion. Sired by Danehill (horse), Danehill to dam Piccadilly Circus, he started his racing career in 2004. Though he did not win any races as a two-year-old, he ran third in the Group One AJC Sires Produce Stakes. He found great success after turning three years old. After being unplaced in the Caulfield Guineas, he proved himself as one of the top Australian sprinters by winning the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate in February 2005. Trainer Paul Perry (horse trainer), Paul Perry wished Fastnet Rock to repeat the successful English campaign by Choisir, who is trained by Perry, in 2003. Elvstroem
Elvstroem (14 November 2000 – 15 November 2024) was a Bay (horse), bay Thoroughbred racehorse, by world champion sire Danehill (horse), Danehill from the former champion three-year-old filly, Circles of Gold. Dam Circles of Gold was a 1991 chestnut mare by the Australasian Champion Sire and Broodmare sire Marscay. She was bred at Widden Stud, where her sire used to stand. Circles of Gold was purchased by McDonald's Licensees - Frank Tagg, Frank Meduri and Gary Moffitt at the sales and raced in their famous gold/white and red colours. Circles of Gold faced the starter on 43 occasions, winning 6 and placing in a further 13 races. Her most notable victory was the 1995 AJC Oaks, she also placed in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup of 1996 to the now deceased filly Arctic Scent, a race her son would capture in 2004. Bullish Luck
Bullish Luck ({{zh, c=牛精福星) (foaled 1999) is a Hong Kong–based Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred in Kentucky, he is the son of the 1990 Breeders' Cup Mile winner Royal Academy and out of the Alysheba mare Wild Vintage. He was sold by his breeders at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale to Gordon Smyth who named him "Al Moughazel" and sent him to Newmarket for training under Pip Payne. Sold to Wong Wing-keung of Hong Kong, his name was changed to Bullish Luck. In his first few years of racing, the colt met with only modest success. However, at age five he began to demonstrate real promise, winning the Group I 2004 Hong Kong Gold Cup and finishing second to Alexander Goldrun in December's Hong Kong Cup. In 2005 Bullish Luck won the Champions Mile at Sha Tin Racecourse and in the process put an end to the seventeen-race winning streak of stablemate Silent Witness. Vinnie Roe
Vinnie Roe is a retired Ireland, Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire (horse), sire. He won the Irish St. Leger for four years in succession (2001–2004) and was named Cartier Champion Stayer, European Champion Stayer in the Cartier Racing Awards for 2002. He also became known internationally for his three attempts to win the Melbourne Cup in which he finished fourth, second and eighth. Makybe Diva (foaled 21 March 1999) is a champion Australian Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse who is the only horse to win three Melbourne Cups and the only mare to win it more than once. She achieved the feat in 2003, 2004, and 2005. She also won the 2005 Cox Plate. She was the highest stakes-earner in Australian history, winning more than Australian dollar, A$14 million.
