Thomas Klestil
Thomas Klestil (; 4 November 1932 – 6 July 2004) was an Austrian diplomat and politician who served as the president of Austria from 1992 until his death in 2004. He was elected in 1992 and re-elected in 1998. Early life and career Born in Vienna to a working class family — his father was a tramway employee — Klestil went to school in Landstraße where he made friends with Joe Zawinul. He studied at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and received his doctorate in 1957. After entering the civil service he worked in Austria as well as abroad, e.g. for OECD. In 1969, he established the Austrian consulate-general in Los Angeles, where he befriended Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fluent in English, Klestil served as the Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations (1978–1982) and Ambassador to the United States (1982–1987) prior to his election as president. Artur Rasizade
Artur Tahir oghlu Rasizade (; born 26 February 1935) is an Azerbaijani politician who served as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan from 1996 until 2018 under the authoritarian regimes of Heydar Aliyev and his son Ilham Aliyev. Thomas de Waal writes of Rasizade's tenure that he "had no political influence", "was unknown outside the country" and his "departure barely merited any commentary." Rasizade was a long-time Communist Party member during the Azerbaijan SSR period. Early life and education Artur Rasizade was born on 26 February 1935 in Kirovabad (now Ganja) in a teacher's family. Ilham Aliyev
Ilham Heydar Oghlu Aliyev (born 24 December 1961) is an Azerbaijani politician who has been the fourth president of Azerbaijan since 2003. He is also the leader of the New Azerbaijan Party since 2005. The son and second child of former Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev, Aliyev became the country's president on 31 October 2003 after a two-month term as the prime minister of Azerbaijan, through a presidential election defined by irregularities shortly before his father's death. He was reelected for a second term in 2008 and was allowed to run in elections indefinitely in 2013, 2018 and 2024 due to the 2009 constitutional referendum, which removed term limits for presidents. Wolfgang Schüssel
Wolfgang Schüssel (; born 7 June 1945) is a retired Austrian politician. He was Chancellor of Austria for two consecutive terms from February 2000 to January 2007. While being recognised as a rare example of an active reformer in contemporary Austrian politics, his governments were also highly controversial from the beginning, starting with the fact that he formed a coalition government with Jörg Haider's Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) on both occasions. The National Council (, ) is one of the two houses of the Austrian Parliament and is frequently referred to as the lower house. The Politics of Austria, constitution endows the National Council with far more power than the Federal Council (Austria), Federal Council. Responsibilities The National Council is where Austria's federal legislature, legislative authority is concentrated; for a bill to become federal law, it must be resolved upon by this chamber. The president of the National Council is the presiding officer of the National Council, the lower house of the Austrian Parliament. Since October 2024, Walter Rosenkranz (FPÖ) has served as President of the National Council, Peter Haubner (ÖVP) as Second President, and Doris Bures (SPÖ) as Third President. The three presidents together form the Presidium of the National Council. Thomas Prinzhorn (born 5 March 1943 in Vienna) is an Austrian industrialist and politician of the national liberal party Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ). Education Prinzhorn was educated in engineering at the Technical University of Vienna, where he graduated in 1967 as ''Diplomingenieur'' (Master of Engineering), and subsequently studied business administration at Harvard University, graduating in 1973.
