The 2004 BCR Open Romania was a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 12th edition of the event known that year as the BCR Open Romania, and was part of the International Series of the 2004 ATP Tour. ATP International Series
The ATP International Series (known from 1990 to 1999 as the ATP World Series) was a series of professional tennis tournaments held internationally as part of the ATP Tour from 2000 to 2008. The series was renamed ATP Tour 250 in 2009. International Series offered players cash prizes (tournaments have purses from $416,000 to $1,000,000) and the ability to earn ATP ranking points. Arenele BNR
The Arenele BNR () are a complex of tennis venues located in Bucharest, Romania. The central court has a capacity of 5,000 seats and the whole facility contains 11 courts. They are named after the National Bank of Romania (BNR). They host the Bucharest Open (part of the WTA Tour and played annually in July after Wimbledon). They also hosted the traditional Romanian Open, also known as the BRD Năstase Țiriac Trophy, that was part of the ATP World Tour for 24 editions. José Acasuso
José Javier "Chucho" Acasuso (; born 20 October 1982) is a tennis coach and a former professional player from Argentina. Like many of his fellow countrymen, he favoured clay. He was known for his strong serve and his hard groundstrokes off both sides. He won three ATP Tour singles titles. In doubles, Acasuso together with Sebastián Prieto, won four titles: in 2005 in Stuttgart and also in Bucharest, and in 2006 and 2008 in Viña Del Mar. He also won a doubles title partnering Flávio Saretta at the Croatia Open Umag in 2004. Early years Acasuso began playing tennis at the age of two, when his father took his brother and sister to his grandfather's tennis club. Reportedly, he got the nickname of "Chucho" from the fact that, when he was a child, he used to say his name was "José Acachucho." Lucas Arnold Ker
Lucas Arnold Ker (; born 12 October 1974) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. Arnold Ker started playing tennis in the Olivos Tenis Club of Buenos Aires, under coach Malcolm Campbell. He is the younger brother of Patricio Arnold. He is right-handed and turned professional in 1994. He played several times for the Argentine Davis Cup team, where he made his debut in 1997 against Venezuela. Arnold Ker was Roger Federer's opponent in the latter's first professional match in 1998, beating the 17-year-old future singles world No. 1 and 20-time major singles champion in straight sets. Mariano Hood
Mariano Hood (born 14 August 1973) is a retired left-handed professional Argentine tennis player who specialized in doubles. In his career, Hood won 13 out of the 26 top level doubles finals he was in. He turned professional in 1993, and currently resides in his city of birth, Buenos Aires. He won US$806,888 in earnings and was coached by Daniel Orsanic. He won his first doubles title in Santiago, Chile, in 1998 and Palermo in 2005 was his last title. On October 27, 2003, Hood reached his highest doubles ranking of World Number 20. He partnered either Sebastián Prieto or Lucas Arnold Ker to win most of his doubles titles, although he did have other partnerships as well. Hood was banned by the ITF of the illegal use of Finasteride after he had made the French Open quarterfinals in 2005. He thus planned to retire from the professional circuit. BRD Năstase Ţiriac Trophy
The Țiriac Open (also known as the Romanian Open) is a professional men's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the successor event to the earlier Romanian International Championships (1930–1983). It is part of the ATP 250 tournaments of the ATP Tour. It was held annually in Bucharest, Romania, between 1993 and 2016 and revived in 2024. Its name is taken from Romania's famous tennis players Ion Țiriac and Ilie Năstase (when it was called BRD Năstase Țiriac Trophy until 2016). The tournament never saw a Romanian winner in singles (though the 2005 edition saw two Romanian players reaching the semifinals, and the 2007 edition saw Victor Hănescu reach the finals), but a Romanian pair (Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu) took home the doubles title in 1998.
