The 2003–04 Maltese Second Division (also known as MIA Second Division 2003–04 due to sponsorship reasons) started on 27 September 2003 and ended on 3 May 2004. Maltese Second Division
The Maltese Second Division (also known as the BOV Second Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the third-highest division in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Third Division to create the National Amateur League. Structure 13 clubs formed the league and each played every other club twice. Three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. At the end of the season, the top two teams were promoted to the First Division, while the bottom two were relegated to the Third Division. 2002–03 Maltese First Division
The 2002–03 Maltese First Division started on 7 September 2002 and finished on 4 May 2003. Naxxar Lions and Lija Athletic were relegated from Maltese Premier League. Msida Saint-Joseph and Senglea Athletic were promoted from Maltese Second Division. Msida Saint-Joseph were the champions and Balzan Youths were promoted to Maltese Premier League. Msida Saint-Joseph were the champions of the 2000–01 Maltese Third Division and a year later they were the champions of the 2001–02 Maltese Second Division. Therefore, they were promoted for three straight years to go to the top level. Gozo and Xgħajra Tornados were relegated to Maltese Second Division. Gozo National Football Team
The Gozo representative football team ( mt, Assoċjazzjoni tal-Futbol Għawdxija) represents the island of Gozo, Malta, in football. It is organised by the Gozo Football Association and its home stadium is the Gozo Stadium. It is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA and therefore is not eligible to enter either the World Cup or European Championship. The Gozo representative football team, however, competed in the 2009 Viva World Cup and hosted the subsequent edition in the following year. As of 2018, Gozo has also participated in the last four editions of the UEFA Regions' Cup, on top of their appearance in the inaugural edition in 1999. Occasionally, the Gozo representative football team also plays friendlies against football clubs, particularly those from the mainland. Żurrieq ( mt, Iż-Żurrieq ) is a town in the Southern Region, Malta, Southern Region of Malta. It is one of the oldest towns in the country, and it has a population of 11,823 inhabitants as of March 2014. The first documentation about it being a parish dates back to 1436 dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. The island of Filfla is administratively a part of the town. The town stretches from in Nigret to Ħal Far respectively in old times the town was a border with Żejtun. There are a number of villages forming part of Żurrieq. Kirkop ( mt, Ħal Kirkop) is a village in the Southern Region of Malta. It is found near the Malta International Airport, and has been inhabited since pre-history. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Leonard. The football team of the village is the Kirkop United Football Club. Etymology and population The original name of the village was Casal Prokopju, and is retrieved from the registers of the Maltese militia that existed prior to the rule of the Order of St. John. Through generations, the local population corrupted the original name and was changed to ''Kirkop''. Birżebbuġa St
Birżebbuġa (; sometimes shortened to B'Buġa) is a seaside town in the Southern Region of Malta, close to Marsaxlokk. It is approximately from the capital Valletta, and it has a population of 9,736 as of March 2014. The town is popular among Maltese holidaymakers, and is known for its sandy beach, Pretty Bay. Maltese First Division
The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The First Division was the precursor of the present Premier League until the latter was revamped for the 1980–81 season with the Maltese Challenge League instituted for the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Since the 2022–23 season, the league is made up of eighteen teams. Over the course of the season, each team plays twice against the others in the league, resulting in each team completing thirty-four games in total. Gżira ( mt, Il-Gżira) is a town in the Central Region of Malta. It is located between Msida and Sliema, also bordering on Ta' Xbiex. It has a population of 8,029 as of March 2014. The word ''Gżira'' means "island" in Maltese, and the town is named after Manoel Island which lies just adjacent to the town. The seafront of Gżira has views of the walled city of Valletta, which are illuminated at night, forming a backdrop to Manoel Island, the yacht marina and a seafront public garden. The 2004–05 Maltese First Division (known as the MIA First Division for sponsorship reasons) started on 5 September 2004 and finished on 15 May 2005. Ħamrun Spartans were promoted back to the Premier League after just one season away, following their relegation alongside Balzan Youths in the 2003–04 Premier League season. Mosta joined Ħamrun in securing place in the Premier League. Balzan suffered a consecutive relegation, and alongside Gozo were relegated to the 2005–06 Second Division.
