Tijuca Tênis Clube
Tijuca Tênis Clube, abbreviated as Tijuca T.C., is a Brazilian professional basketball club that is based in the Tijuca neighborhood, in the Northern Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. History Tijuca's parent athletic association was founded in 1915, initially as a tennis club, with the name Tijuca Lawn Tennis Club. Basketball was introduced later, and became the club's most popular sport. Tijuca has reached the final of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship ten times, losing them all. In 2010, 2011, and 2012, Tijuca lost to Flamengo in the Rio de Janeiro State Finals. In 2011, the team won the Brazilian Super Cup against Liga Sorocabana, and acquired the right to play in Brazil's top-tier level league, the NBB, in the 2011–12 season. In that season, Tijuca finished the regular season in twelfth place in the league. In the playoffs, the team was beaten by Uberlândia. Gracie Barra
Gracie Barra (GB) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy and team co-funded in 1986 by Carlos Gracie Jr., a son of Carlos Gracie, one of the founders of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. History The Gracie Barra academy was established in 1986 by Carlos Gracie Jr. (known as Carlinhos) at the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. Gracie, a son of Carlos Gracie Sr. one of the founders of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, had been head coach at the main Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro's downtown, before leading his brother Rolls Gracie's school in Copacabana, following his tragic death in a hang-gliding accident. The academy became known as Gracie Barra in reference to the neighborhood. In a year the academy went from 20 to 200 members including some of the students Gracie had coached at his brother's academy, such as Jean Jacques Machado and Renzo Gracie. World Jiu-Jitsu Championship
The World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. It is widely considered the most important and prestigious jiu-jitsu tournament of the year. The first edition took place in February 1996 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since 2007 the tournament has been held in California. The last edition of the championship took place at California State University in 2023. In 2024 the tournament will be held at the Walter pyramid in Long Beach California. History The first World Championship was held on 3 and 4 February 1996 at the Tijuca Tênis Clube in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
