2002–03 Utah Jazz Season
The 2002–03 NBA season was the Jazz's 29th season in the National Basketball Association, and 24th season in Salt Lake City, Utah. During the off-season, the Jazz signed free agents Matt Harpring, Calbert Cheaney, and Mark Jackson (basketball), Mark Jackson. The team struggled losing seven of their first ten games, but then posted a six-game winning streak afterwards, and held a 29–20 record at the All-Star break. The Jazz finished third in the Midwest Division with a 47–35 record, and qualified for the 2003 NBA Playoffs, playoffs for the twentieth straight season. Karl Malone averaged 20.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game, while Harpring averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, second-year forward Andrei Kirilenko provided the team with 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.2 blocks per game, and John Stockton contributed 10.8 points, 7.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Jerry Sloan
Gerald Eugene Sloan (March 28, 1942 – May 22, 2020) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) before beginning a 30-year coaching career, 23 of which were spent as head coach of the Utah Jazz (1988–2011). NBA commissioner David Stern referred to Sloan as "one of the greatest and most respected coaches in NBA history". Sloan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. After playing college basketball with the Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball, Evansville Purple Aces, Sloan was selected by the Baltimore Bullets (1963–1973), Baltimore Bullets with the fourth overall pick of the 1965 NBA draft. Karl Malone
Karl Anthony Malone (born July 24, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jamal Sampson
Jamal Wesley Sampson (born May 15, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player. A power forward / center, Sampson is the cousin of the 1983 NBA draft's number one overall pick Ralph Sampson. He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he played only one season before being selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round (47th overall) of the 2002 NBA draft. He was then traded along with Ryan Humphrey to the Orlando Magic for Curtis Borchardt. The Magic then traded Sampson to the Milwaukee Bucks for Rashard Griffith. Ryan Humphrey
Ryan Ashley Humphrey (born July 24, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player, at the power forward position. Humphrey is currently an assistant basketball coach at The University of Oklahoma. Previously he was a coach at Notre Dame. After a college career at both the University of Oklahoma and the University of Notre Dame, Humphrey was a first-round pick of the Utah Jazz in the 2002 NBA draft. On draft day, he was traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for their pick, Curtis Borchardt. After appearing in 1/2 season with Orlando, Humphrey was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies alongside Mike Miller in exchange for Drew Gooden and Gordan Giriček. 2003–04 Golden State Warriors Season
The 2003–04 NBA season was the Warriors' 58th season in the National Basketball Association, and 42nd season in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the offseason, the Warriors acquired Nick Van Exel from the Dallas Mavericks, and Clifford Robinson from the Detroit Pistons while signing free agents Calbert Cheaney and Speedy Claxton. The Warriors began to show they were turning the corner as they got off to a 14–13 start. However, as the New Year began, they went on a 7-game losing streak. Despite a nine-game losing streak between February and March, the Warriors would then win seven straight games. However, they yet again missed the playoffs by finishing fifth in the Pacific Division with a 37–45 record tied with the Seattle SuperSonics. ARCO Arena (known as Power Balance Pavilion from 2011 to 2012 and Sleep Train Arena from 2012 until 2022) was an indoor arena located in Sacramento, California, United States.
