2002–03 DEL Season
The 2002–03 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 9th season since the founding of the (German Ice Hockey League). The Krefeld Pinguine became German Champions. The Schwenninger ERC Wild Wings lost their license due to insolvency proceedings and the Frankfurt Lions were granted a stay in the league. Regular season The eight best-placed teams in the regular season would enter playoffs, while the last two teams would have to fight relegation in a playdown series. Deutsche Eishockey Liga
The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. Founded in 1994, it was formed as a replacement for the Eishockey-Bundesliga and became the new top-tier league in Germany as a result. Unlike the old Bundesliga, the DEL is not under the administration of the German Ice Hockey Federation. The DEL is regarded as one of Europe's premier ice hockey divisions behind leagues in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. Three German clubs represent the DEL on the European stage each season in the Champions Hockey League, although no German club has yet won this competition. Hannover Scorpions
The Hannover Scorpions are a professional ice hockey team, which plays in the Oberliga, Germany's third tier ice hockey league. They previously played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga from 1996 to 2013. History Founded in 1975 as ESC Wedemark, the team was renamed Wedemark Scorpions in their first DEL season in 1996 after the rock band Scorpions, who also call Hanover, Lower Saxony their home. The next season, the Scorpions relocated to Hanover proper and began playing their home games at TUI Arena in 2000. Despite playing in the region's top venue, as well as enjoying sizeable corporate and political support, the team has struggled to generate sustained interest in Hanover. Jeff Tory
Jeff "Iron Fist" Tory (born August 6, 1973) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman currently playing for HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian Hockey League. Tory was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. After spending three years in the University of Maine, Tory played for the Canadian National Team as well three games for the Kentucky Thoroughblades before signing with the Houston Aeros in 1997. After two seasons he moved to the Philadelphia Phantoms for one season. He then played ten games for the Utah Grizzlies before returning to the Aeros. In 2001, Tory moved to the European leagues, signing with the Kassel Huskies of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for one season. He then spent one season with the Hamburg Freezers before spending three seasons with the DEG Metro Stars between 2003 and 2006. Frédéric Chabot
Joseph Leopold Louis Marie Frédéric Chabot (born February 12, 1968) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former goaltender who played parts of five seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings. He is currently the Goaltending Coach for the Minnesota Wild. Playing career Chabot played for the International Hockey League's Cincinnati Cyclones. He also played for the Houston Aeros, helping them win the Turner Cup in 1999. He also played a portion of his career for the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings. He was also on the roster for the 1998–99 expansion Nashville Predators. Brad Purdie
Brad Purdie (born July 11, 1972) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey centre. Early life Born in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Purdie spent four seasons with the Maine Black Bears men's ice hockey team. Career Purdie began his professional career in the East Coast Hockey League with the Dayton Bombers and the Peoria Rivermen, and in the American Hockey League with the Cornwall Aces before spending three seasons in the International Hockey League. He played for the Chicago Wolves before joining the Manitoba Moose, finishing second in points with 72 behind Greg Pankewicz's 76. He then moved to the Fort Wayne Komets, where he scored 68 points and again finished second in points with Vyacheslav Butsayev leading the team with 72. Christoph Brandner
Christoph Brandner (born 5 July 1975) is an Austrian former professional ice hockey winger. Brandner had the most goals while playing for Krefeld Pinguine team of the German DEL. He was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the eighth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 237th overall pick and became first Austrian hockey player to score a goal in the NHL, when he was playing in the 2003–04 season with the Minnesota Wild. Mark David Beaufait (born May 13, 1970) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He played 5 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the San Jose Sharks during the 1992–93 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1992 to 2009, was spent mainly in the International Hockey League and in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga - where he won 4 championships with Eisbären Berlin. Internationally he played for the American national team at the 1994 Winter Olympics. ERC Ingolstadt (''Eishockey-und-Rollschuh club'', ) is a German professional ice hockey club that plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Iserlohn Roosters
The Iserlohn Roosters are a professional ice hockey team based in Iserlohn, North Rhine-Westphalia. They are members of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) since 2000 and play their home games at the Eissporthalle Iserlohn which is also known as ''Eissporthalle am Seilersee''.
