2002 Queensland Cup
The 2002 Queensland Cup season was the 7th season of Queensland's top-level statewide rugby league competition run by the Queensland Rugby League. The competition featured 12 teams playing a 26-week long season (including finals) from March to September. The Redcliffe Dolphins defeated the Ipswich Jets 34–10 in the Grand Final at Dolphin Oval to claim their third premiership. Easts Tigers, Easts Scott Thorburn was named the competition's Player of the Year, winning the List of Queensland Cup honours#Petero Civoniceva Medal, Courier Mail Medal. Teams The Queensland Cup returned to a 12-team format in 2002 with the inclusion of the North Queensland Young Guns, who served as the North Queensland Cowboys feeder club. Redcliffe Dolphins
Redcliffe Dolphins are a semi-professional rugby league club based in Redcliffe, Queensland, Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 1947, they were accepted into the Brisbane Rugby League premiership (rugby league competition), Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) premiership competition in 1960, and since 1996 have played in the Queensland Cup. The Redcliffe Dolphins thrived in the BRL. However, the 1988 admission of the Brisbane Broncos team in the New South Wales Rugby League competition caused the decline of the BRL. Although a separately licensed Dolphins (NRL) team currently competes in the fully professional national competition, the Redcliffe squad continues to play in the Queensland competition. Burleigh Bears
The Burleigh Bears are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Gold Coast, Australia. They compete in Queensland's top rugby league competition, the Queensland Cup. Since their admission to the competition in 1997, the club has appeared in six Grand Finals, winning four (1999, 2004, 2016 and 2019) and won the minor premiership three times (2003, 2004 and 2023). Wynnum Seagulls
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls are an Australian rugby league football club based at Kougari Oval, in Brisbane's bayside suburb of Manly West, which neighbours the suburb of Wynnum. They competed in the Brisbane Rugby League from 1951 to 1997. Since 1996 they have competed in the Queensland Cup. Their jersey is red, green and white. From 1995 to 2005 they were known as the Wynnum Seagulls. History Wynnum-Manly entered the Brisbane premiership in 1931 but withdrew after two seasons due to the Great Depression. Purtell Park
Purtell Park is a rugby league ground in Bardon, a suburb in Brisbane's west, in Queensland, Australia. It is now the home of Wests Brisbane Juniors Rugby League Football Club (catering for approximately 300 young players), Voices of Birralee (catering for approximately 400 young singers), Western Districts Gymnastics, and a venue for Premier Touch Football and TRL. Wests Panthers
The Western Suburbs Panthers, or the West Brisbane Panthers, or often simply referred to as Wests for short, is a semi professional rugby league club based in the western suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The club is the oldest in the QRL and despite absences from the top grade in recent years and several name changes the club continued to operate. After leaving the Queensland Cup, they participated in the Brisbane A-Grade competition from 2005 until their senior sides disbanding in 2012. The Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC , formerly known as the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Sports Centre) is a multi-purpose sports facility in Nathan, Queensland, located south-east of the Brisbane CBD. Its main stadium – formerly known as QEII Stadium, and later ANZ Stadium under a naming rights agreement with ANZ – accommodates 48,500 spectators, while its smaller State Athletics Facility accommodates 2,100 spectators. Davies Park is a sporting venue in the suburb of West End in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is grass. It is located at the corner of Jane St, Montague Road & Riverside Drive, West End. The Souths Logan Magpies, more commonly referred to by their former names Southern Suburbs Magpies, or South Brisbane Magpies, or often simply referred to as Souths, are a rugby league football club based in the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. The Willows Sports Complex (last known as 1300SMILES Stadium due to naming rights) was a grass football stadium situated in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was used predominantly as a rugby league ground as the home ground of the North Queensland Cowboys National Rugby League club. The ground was also used for rugby union and soccer. Logan Scorpions
The Logan Scorpions were an Australian rugby league football club from the suburb of Slacks Creek in Logan City, Queensland. Due to financial difficulties, the club ceased operation at the end of the 2002 Queensland Cup season, and merged with the Souths Magpies to form a new team, the Souths Logan Magpies. History The Scorpions made their debut in the third grade of the Brisbane Rugby League premiership (BRL) in 1987. After they made the grand final, which they lost to the Redcliffe Dolphins 4–18, it was decided to fully admit the club into first grade in 1988. North Ipswich Reserve
North Ipswich Reserve, known as Qld Group Stadium or commercially Bendigo Bank Oval, is a sports venue in Ipswich, Queensland. Originally an Australian rules football (and later cricket) oval, it became a primarily rugby league venue in the 1920s as that code experienced an explosion in local popularity. It is currently home to the Ipswich Jets, who play in the Queensland Wizard Cup. Langlands Park
Langlands Park (also known as Totally Workwear Stadium under naming rights) is a sporting venue in the suburb of Stones Corner, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is the home ground of the Brisbane Tigers, a rugby league team that competes in the Queensland Cup and is also used as a home ground for the Brisbane Broncos Women's side in the National Rugby League Women's competition.
