2002 Monte Carlo Rally
The 2002 Monte Carlo Rally (formally the 70th Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo) was the first round of the 2002 World Rally Championship. The race was held over three days between 18 January and 20 January 2002, and was won by Subaru's Tommi Mäkinen, his 24th win in the World Rally Championship. Citroën's Sébastien Loeb, won the rally temporarily but received a two-minute time penalty due to an illegal tire change during the second day. 2002 World Rally Championship Season
The 2002 World Rally Championship was the 30th season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of 14 rallies. Marcus Grönholm won his second drivers' world championship in a Peugeot 206 WRC, ahead of Petter Solberg and Carlos Sainz. The manufacturers' title was won by Peugeot, ahead of Ford and Subaru. Calendar The 2002 championship was contested over fourteen rounds in Europe, Africa, South America and Oceania. Calendar changes Rallye de Portugal was dropped from the calendar after a disastrous running of the event in 2001 due to heavy rain which was heavily criticized by drivers such as Marcus Grönholm, Colin McRae and Richard Burns. It was replaced by Rallye Deutschland which had an impressive candidate Rally in 2001 won by Philippe Bugalski after main rival Marcus Gronholm received a puncture and spun multiple times. David Senior
David Senior (born 31 March 1964 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England) is a former World Professional Rally co-driver. He competed at 115 WRC rallies. He was the winner of the British Rally Championship in 1995. Career David Senior's rally career began in 1980 while rallying in local road rallies. He connected with David Young in a Mk II Ford escort and in 1986 the two joined the British Junior Rally Team. Senior met Alister McRae while co-driving for Andy Knight in 1988 and began a partnership with him in 1989 which lasted for 15 years. In 1992, they won the inaugural Shell Scholarship Competition and the British Group N title where many other winning groups participated. They also became the first crew to win a round of the National Rally Championship outright in a Group N car during the Granite City Rally. Alister McRae
Alister Ritchie McRae (born 20 December 1970) is a British rally driver from Scotland who competed in the World Rally Championship. He is the son of the five-time British Rally Champion Jimmy McRae and the younger brother of the late 1995 World Rally Champion, Colin McRae, and older brother of property entrepreneur Stuart McRae. His uncle Hugh "Shug" Steele is also a former rally driver. Career Born in Lanark, McRae took his first foray into motorsport at the age of twelve, when he took up motorcycle trials and motocross. Mitsubishi Lancer WRC
The Mitsubishi Lancer WRC is a World Rally Car built by Ralliart, Mitsubishi Motors' motorsport division, to compete in the World Rally Championship. The previous Lancer Evolution series were homologated for the Group A class, and their competitiveness against World Rally Cars from other manufacturers was therefore limited. WRC The Lancer Evolution WRC is powered by the same 1996 cc '' 4G63'' engine that has been used in its sports and rally cars since the 1980s, in this iteration producing at 5500 rpm and at 3500 rpm. François Delecour
François Delecour (born 30 August 1962) is a French rally driver. Biography Career in World Rally Championship François Delecour began rallying in 1981, in the French national championship. He entered his first major event, the Monte Carlo Rally, three years later, driving a Talbot Samba. He was co driven by his then girlfriend Anne Chantal Pauwels. For 1985 and 1986 he drove in the Peugeot 205 Cup, finishing third in both seasons. This was enough to earn him a degree of support from the Peugeot works team for subsequent years, culminating in a full works drive in a Peugeot 309 in 1989 and 1990, in which year he finished ninth overall and first two-wheel-drive car on the Monte Carlo.
