Television In Denmark
Television in Denmark was established in the 1950s and was run by a monopoly with only one channel available until the 1980s. History The first television broadcasts in Denmark started on 2 October 1951. These were carried out by the national radio broadcaster Statsradiofonien and consisted of a one-hour broadcast three times per week. The broadcasts were initially limited to a few hundred homes in the capital area. Daily broadcasts started in 1954. With the opening of the Gladsaxe transmitter, most of Zealand could watch television. The entire country was covered in 1960 when the transmitter on Bornholm opened. Statsradiofonien was renamed Danmarks Radio (DR) in 1959. The first news programme, TV-Avisen, started in 1965. Colour television started test transmissions in 1967, with colour television becoming the norm in filming and broadcasting from 1970 on. Viasat Explore is a television channel owned by international media company, Viasat World LTD. The channel focuses on fishing, adventure, men at work and engineering. Viasat Explore is a 24-hour channel broadcasting in Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States. With headquarters in London, United Kingdom, the channel started its broadcast in the Scandinavian countries and after a few years expanded to many East European markets and the Baltic countries with subtitles. The service was launched in January 2002 as Viasat Explorer in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. On 1 November 2003 it expanded into Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Belarus, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria. Big Brother (Danish TV Series)
''Big Brother Danmark'' was the Danish version of the international reality television franchise '' Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol Jr. The series debuted on Danish television in January 2001 and was axed in June 2014, due to poor ratings. The show first aired two regular seasons on ''TvDanmark2'' (Now Kanal 4) in 2001. The series returned once again in 2003 on ''TvDanmark2'', first with a celebrity season called "''V.I.P''.", later that year ''TvDanmark2'' aired the first regular ''Big Brother'' season in nearly two years. In 2004 ''TvDanmark2'' aired one season before the show was paused indefinitely. The season was a celebrity season and was called "''Reality Allstars''". ''The Fairytaler'' () is a 2002 Danish animated television series based on the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. It was also the second anthology series adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's works right after Andersen Stories ended. An English dub was eventually produced in later years. Robinson Ekspeditionen
is a popular Danish reality television program debuting in 1998. In the spring of 1998 TV3 purchased the broadcast rights to air their own version of '' Expedition Robinson''. Following the success of the Swedish version, Denmark was the first country to adopt their own version of the show. The show has proven to be a ratings success since its premiere in 1998. The name alludes to both ''Robinson Crusoe'' and ''The Swiss Family Robinson'', two stories featuring people marooned by shipwrecks. Format The Robinson format was developed by Planet 24, a United Kingdom TV production company owned by Charlie Parsons and Bob Geldof. Their company Castaway Television Productions retained the rights to the concept when they sold Planet 24 in 1999.
