2002 Formula BMW ADAC Season
The 2002 Formula BMW ADAC season was a multi-event motor racing championship for open wheel, formula racing cars held across Europe. The championship featured drivers competing in 1.2 litre Formula BMW single seat race cars. The 2002 season was the fifth Formula BMW ADAC season organized by BMW Motorsport and ADAC. The season began at Hockenheimring on 20 April and finished at the same place on 6 October, after twenty races. Nico Rosberg was crowned series champion. Formula BMW
Formula BMW was a junior racing formula for single seater cars. It was positioned at the bottom of the motorsport career ladder alongside the longer established Formula Ford category. Like Formula Ford, it was intended to function as the young kart racing graduate's first experience of car racing. The new formula was created by BMW Motorsport in 2001, with the first of its championships being inaugurated in Germany in 2002. Selected competitors from each series meet in the World Final at the end of each season, with the promise of a Formula One test for the winner. From 2011 onwards BMW ceased to support the Pacific and Europe series, in favour of the Formula BMW Talent Cup. The Talent Cup, which was the final Formula BMW championship in existence, ended after the 2013 season. Junior Strous
Junior Strous (born 28 April 1986 in Vlaardingen) is a Dutch racing driver, racing team owner, and entrepreneur from Wassenaar. He has competed at various levels and classes of formula racing starting his professional career in Formula Ford at Geva Racing in 2002, advancing into Formula BMW, Formula Renault, Champcar Atlantic and Indycar Lights. Early life Junior Strous was born in the Netherlands in 1986. He is the son of athlete and racecar driver Ton Strous. In 1992, Strous' father and mother, a part-time yoga instructor and businesswoman, started a carwash and detailing business. During a family trip to Tenerife, Spain when Strous was 10 years old, he became interested in racing after his first lap around a track in a go-cart. Zolder
The Circuit Zolder, also known as Circuit Terlamen, is an undulating motorsport race track in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. History Built in 1963, Zolder hosted the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix on 10 separate occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the 1980 Belgian motorcycle Grand Prix. F1 moved to Zolder in 1973 and with the exception of a race at Nivelles-Baulers in 1974, Zolder was the location of the Belgian Grand Prix until 1982. That year, Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve was killed during qualifying at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Villeneuve's Ferrari 126C2 collided at speed with the March 821 of Jochen Mass. The Ferrari was torn up in the accident and when rolling, Villeneuve was thrown from the car. After Villeneuve's death, the Belgian Grand Prix was held at Spa-Francorchamps in 1983, before returning to Zolder one final time in 1984. 2002 European Grand Prix
The 2002 European Grand Prix (formally the 2002 Allianz Grand Prix of Europe) was a Formula One motor race held on 23 June 2002 at the Nürburgring, Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It was won by Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello, his first win since his victory at the 2000 German Grand Prix. His team mate Michael Schumacher finished second in another dominating performance by the team. McLaren- Mercedes driver Kimi Räikkönen finished third. This was the first race at the modified Nürburgring circuit, as the first chicane was replaced by the ''Mercedes Arena'' corners. The victory was Barrichello's second of his career and the first of the 2002 season; the result moved him up to fourth in the Drivers' Championship but was tied with David Coulthard on points. 2002 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Season
The 2002 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters was the sixteenth season of premier German touring car championship and also third season under the moniker of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters since the series' resumption in 2000. There were ten race weekends with two races; a 30 km qualifying race and a 100 km main race at each event. Laurent Aïello was the Drivers Champion driving an Audi, and HWA Team were the Teams Champion utilising Mercedes Benz cars. Tomáš Kostka
Tomáš Kostka (born 27 August 1984) is a Czech racing driver, who lives in Beausoleil, Alpes-Maritimes. Racing career Kostka raced in Formula Ford and the Ford Puma Cup in 2001. He raced in Formula BMW ADAC and Austrian F3 the following year. He moved onto the more competitive Recaro F3 Cup in 2003. He combined another year there in 2004 with races in the World Series by Nissan and Euro Formula 3000 championship. He carried on in Formula Renault 3.5 Series for another two seasons, amassing a total of 12 points. Filip Salaquarda (born January 11, 1984 in Prague) is a professional racing driver from the Czech Republic. Career Early career After an early career in karting, Salaquarda began his racing career in 2000 in his native Czech Republic, competing in the Ford Puma Cup where he finished in third place. A year later he stepped up to the Škoda Octavia Cup, finishing the year 13th in the standings. In 2002, he made his single–seater debut in the Formula BMW ADAC series in Germany. In his first season in the category he was classified in 21st place. The following year he improved to 13th overall, taking a podium place in the final round at Hockenheim. ISR Racing (also known as Coca-Cola Racing Team in FIA GT) is a racing team from Czech Republic, created in 1993 by Igor Salaquarda. The team is currently competing in ADAC GT Masters. History The company was created to develop the Peugeot 306 Cup of Peugeot Cup racing. Later, in 1996, ISR started racing in Super Touring with Audi 80 quattro and Czech driver Josef Venc. Alexandros "Alex" Margaritis ( el, Αλέξανδρος Μαργαρίτης; born 20 September 1984) is a Greek-German racing driver who is best known for competing in the German-based Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters touring car championship. Prior to that, his career had focused on formula single seater racing in Europe. Margaritis has dual nationality as a result of his place of birth and Greek parentage. Karting and formula racing Margaritis had his first experience of karting in 1996, and in 1997, he competed in the ICA Junior class, in which he secured the championship runner-up position. Reiter Engineering GmbH & Co Kg, commonly known simply as Reiter Engineering, is a German racing team and racing car manufacturer established in 2000 by motorsport engineer Hans Reiter. Reiter was a partner of Lamborghini from 2000 to 2014, involved with the production of their GT race cars until the end of the Lamborghini Gallardo's racing tenure.
