2002 Cleveland Browns Season
The 2002 season was the Cleveland Browns' 54th as a professional sports franchise, their 50th as a member of the National Football League, and the second season under head coach Butch Davis. In their opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, linebacker Dwayne Rudd cost the Browns a victory when he threw his helmet in celebration unaware the play was still going on, incurring an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Because the clock expired during the play the Browns' unsportsmanlike conduct occurred on, per NFL rules, the Chiefs were given one untimed down. Chiefs' kicker Morten Andersen made the 30-yard field goal to win the game. The Browns made their first playoff appearance since their re-activation. It was only the Browns' fourth year since returning to the league effectively as an expansion team, and their first winning season. Al Lerner
Alfred Lerner (May 8, 1933 – October 23, 2002) was an American businessman. He was best known as the chair of the board of credit-card giant MBNA and the owner of the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). Morten Andersen
Morten Andersen (born 19 August 1960), nicknamed "the Great Dane", is a Danish-American former professional football kicker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 25 seasons, most notably with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. Following a career from 1982 to 2007, Andersen holds the NFL record for regular season games played at 382. He also ranks second in field goals (565) and points scored (2,544). In addition to his league accomplishments, he is the Saints all-time leading scorer at 1,318 points. Andersen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017. William Green (American Football)
William Green (born December 17, 1979) is an American former professional football player who was a running back for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Boston College Eagles, receiving consensus All-American honors in 2001. The Browns chose him in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft and he appeared in 46 games for Cleveland between 2002 and 2005. Early life Green was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Kenard Dushun Lang (born January 31, 1975) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end who played in the National Football League. He played for the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and Denver Broncos. Early life Lang attended Maynard Evans High School in Orlando and was a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. Greg Spires
Gregory Tyrone Spires (born August 12, 1974) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1998 NFL draft. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles. Earl Holmes
Earl L. Holmes (born April 28, 1973) is an American former professional football linebacker and former head coach at Florida A&M University. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL draft out of Florida A&M University. Holmes was inducted into the FAMU Hall of Fame in July 2005 to join the likes of Alonzo S. "Jake" Gaither and FAMU'S "Famed Final Four of 1952." Roman Oben (born 9 October 1972) is an American former professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Louisville before being drafted by the New York Giants in 1996.
