2001–02 Parma AC Season
Parma Associazione Calcio suffered a major setback in the 2001–02 Serie A season after selling two of their key players in the summer of 2001, as goalkeeper and former youth-team product Gianluigi Buffon and French international Lilian Thuram both departed for Juventus. Parma had a disappointing league campaign, finishing in 10th place, but on the other hand they managed to win the Coppa Italia, beating Juventus 1–0 at home, before losing 2–1 away and winning on the away goals rule. Parma (; ) is a city in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna known for its architecture, Giuseppe Verdi, music, art, prosciutto (ham), Parmesan, cheese and surrounding countryside. Hakan Şükür
Hakan Şükür (; born 1 September 1971) is a Turkish former professional footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed the "Bull of the Bosphorus" and ''Kral'' (king), he spent the majority of his professional career with Galatasaray, being a three-time '' Gol Kralı'' (Goal King, title and award given to the annual top goalscorer of the Süper Lig), representing the club in three different spells and winning a total of 14 major titles. Şükür represented Turkey a total of 112 times, scoring 51 goals, making him the nation's top goalscorer and 19th in the world at the time of his retirement. Hidetoshi Nakata
is a Japanese former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder. Considered one of the best talents to come from an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) country in the early late 1990s and early 2000s, Nakata became the first ever AFC player to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or. Sabri Lamouchi (born 9 November 1971) is a French professional Manager (association football), football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. During his 19-year playing career, Lamouchi played for clubs in France, Italy and Qatar. Early life Lamouchi was born in Lyon, France, and is of Tunisian descent. Club career Lamouchi started his professional career with Olympique Alès, Alès and then moved to AJ Auxerre, Auxerre for four years. Luigi Sartor
Luigi Sartor (, ; born 30 January 1975) is an Italian former professional footballer. Usually a full-back or wing-back on both flanks, he also played as a central defender. During a 17-year professional career Sartor represented ten clubs in his country, also having a brief spell in Hungary. Roberto Néstor Sensini (born 12 October 1966) is an Argentine football manager and former player, who played as a centre-back or defensive midfielder. As a player with the Argentina national team, he finished third place in the 1989 Copa América edition of the tournament. Stephen Appiah
Stephen Leroy Appiah ( ; born 24 December 1980) is a Ghanaian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. During his career, he played for Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus and Galatasaray's youth squad but was not signed and he returned to Hearts of Oak. In 1997, he moved abroad to join Italian Serie A side Udinese, where he initially played as a striker. He spent three seasons with the club, later changing positions during his time there, moving to a deeper midfield position. Antonio Benarrivo
Antonio Benarrivo (; born 21 August 1968) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a defender. One of the best players in the world in his position in the 1990s, Benarrivo was an energetic attacking full-back capable of operating on both wings; he began his career with Brindisi in 1986, and later moved to Padova in 1989. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. The away goals rule is most often invoked in two-leg fixtures, where the initial result is determined by the aggregate score — i.e. the scores of both games are added together.
