Uzbekistan Super League (; ), known as Artel Uzbekistan Super League due to sponsorship reasons (; ), is the top division of professional football in Uzbekistan. It is operated under the auspices of the Uzbekistan Professional Football League and Uzbekistan Football Association. It was founded in 1992 and currently has 16 teams. The top team qualifies to the group stage of the AFC Champions League. History The Uzbek League was founded in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and its domestic league, the Soviet Top League. The league is known locally as the Higher League with relegation to the First League. League system The league is generally played between March and November in the calendar year and has occasionally had the Super Cup as a curtain raiser to the domestic campaign. Sogdiyona Jizzakh ( Uzbek: ''Soʻgʻdiyona Jizzax Futbol Klubi / "Сўғдиёна" Жиззах Футбол Клуби''), formerly known as Sogdiana, is an Uzbek professional football club based in Jizzakh, that plays in the Uzbekistan Super League. Football Club Sogdiyona Jizzakh was founded in 1970, and is named after the ancient historical area of Sogdia. In Soviet times, the club was mainly involved in the Second and First Leagues of the USSR Championship. In 1979 it became the winner of zone "Central Asia" of the Second League of the USSR. PFK Metallurg Bekabad () is a former Uzbek football club based in Bekabad. They last play in Uzbekistan Super League until 2024. History The club was founded in 1945. Metallurg played in one of the regional zones of Soviet Second League until 1992. Since 1992 club played in Uzbekistan First League. From 1992 to 1993 club was named ''Madanchi''. In 1994 club was renamed to ''Metallurg''. 1997 season club finished as runner-up after Temiryo'lchi and promoted to the Uzbek League. Zarafshon (, ) is a city in the center of Uzbekistan's Navoiy Region. Administratively, it is a district-level city, that includes the urban-type settlement Muruntau. It has an area of and 85,100 inhabitants (2021). Located in the Kyzylkum Desert, it receives water from the Amudarya by a 220-km pipeline.
