2001 NHL Waiver Draft
The NHL waiver draft was an annual draft held by the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1977 to 2003. A reworked version of the NHL intra-league draft, the waiver draft was created to help address the league's competitive balances issues and the financial issues some of the expansion teams added in the preceding ten years were undergoing. It was not held during the 1979–80 and 1991–92 seasons due to the 1979 merger with the World Hockey Association and the 1991 NHL dispersal and expansion drafts, respectively. It was discontinued as a result of the collective bargaining agreement that was reached to end the 2004–05 NHL lockout. Over the course of 25 waiver drafts, 231 selections were made and 240 players total changed teams. Rules The waiver draft was held within a week of the start of the regular season. Colorado Rockies (NHL)
The Colorado Rockies were a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) that played in Denver from 1976 to 1982. They were founded as the Kansas City Scouts, an expansion team that began play in the NHL in the 1974–75 season. The Scouts moved from Kansas City, Missouri, to Denver for the 1976–77 season. Yvon Vautour
Yvon Jean Vautour (born September 10, 1956) is a Canadian former ice hockey coach and former National Hockey League player. Playing career As a youth, Vautour played in the 1969 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Saint John, New Brunswick. Vautour was drafted by the New York Islanders 104th overall in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft. He played junior hockey with Mike Bossy for the Laval National of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Coaching career Vautour was an assistant coach with the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League from 2001 – 2003. Dan Newman (ice Hockey)
Daniel Kenneth Newman (born January 26, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 126 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for three teams between 1976 and 1980. He had natural offensive talent and was capable of mixing it up when the game turned rough. Playing career Newman played two seasons with St. Clair College then split the 1972–73 season between the American Hockey League (AHL) and International Hockey League (IHL). He then played three years with the Port Huron Flags/Wings and scored 39 goals in 1975–76 for the New York Rangers affiliate. Newman played 100 games for the Rangers over two seasons. James Peter Lorentz, Jr. (born May 1, 1947) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey centre who played 10 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres between 1969 and 1978. Pierre Bouchard
Pierre Émile Bouchard (born February 20, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals. He was selected by the Canadiens in the first round (fifth overall) of the 1965 NHL Amateur Draft.
