2001 Memorial Cup
The 2001 Memorial Cup occurred May 19–27 at the Agridome in Regina, Saskatchewan. It was the 83rd annual Memorial Cup competition and determined the major junior ice hockey champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). It featured the host team, the Regina Pats as well as the winners of the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League which were the Ottawa 67's, Val-d'Or Foreurs and the Red Deer Rebels respectively. The Red Deer Rebels won their first Memorial Cup, beating the Val-d'Or Foreurs in the final. Agridome
The Brandt Centre (formerly the Regina Agridome) is an indoor arena at REAL District in Regina, Saskatchewan. Built in 1977, it is the home arena for the WHL's Regina Pats. It is owned by the city of Regina and operated by the Regina Exhibition Association Ltd. (REAL). History The venue has hosted various sporting events, including curling and hockey events, as well as concerts and other events. Beginning in 2012, it was home to the Regina Rage of the Legends Football League's Canadian division. Opened in 1977 as the Agridome, it was renamed Brandt Centre after the city sold naming rights to Regina-based farm equipment manufacturer Brandt Group. In January 2015, the arena introduced a new scoreboard with ten video displays. Costing over $3 million, it is the largest suspended scoreboard in the province. Shay Stephenson (born September 13, 1983) is a Canadian former professional hockey player who last played for Sparta Warriors of the Norwegian GET-ligaen. Darcy Robinson
Darcy Robinson (May 3, 1981September 27, 2007) was an Italian/Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman who was a former Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick. Robinson split five seasons between the AHL and ECHL, playing for both Pittsburgh Penguins' affiliates in Wilkes-Barre and Wheeling before joining HC Asiago in 2005. Death Robinson started his third season with Asiago HC on September 27, 2007. Less than minutes into the opening game of the 2007-08 Serie A season vs Ritten-Renon, Robinson collapsed to the ice without being hit, suffering a heart attack. He was pronounced dead before he reached the hospital. The team was informed of Robinson's death with less than 8 minutes left in the game, and the game was suspended. Calmodulin (CaM) (an abbreviation for calcium-modulated protein) is a multifunctional intermediate calcium-binding messenger protein expressed in all eukaryotic cells. It is an intracellular target of the secondary messenger Ca2+, and the binding of Ca2+ is required for the activation of calmodulin. Derek Meech
Derek Meech (born April 21, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and winger. He last played for the Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and previously appeared in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets. Playing career Meech played his junior hockey for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. There, he teamed with future NHL star Dion Phaneuf as the team's top defensive pairing. Justin Mapletoft
Justin Mapletoft (born January 11, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft as their fifth-round pick, number 130 overall. He played 38 NHL games with the Islanders in addition to his four seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. After being recommended by his Tigers linemate Sean Bergenheim, Mapletoft signed with Jokerit in the Finnish SM-liiga for the 2005–06 season, but after a disappointing early season, the team invoked a buyout clause in his contract at the beginning of November 2005, ending his season with Jokerit. Doug Lynch (ice Hockey)
Douglas Lynch (born April 4, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played with the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Lynch was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round, 43rd overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Lynch spent parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League, the majority of them coming with the Red Deer Rebels, who (although taking him as a forward from Bantam) utilized him as a physical defenceman. Ross Lupaschuk (born January 19, 1981) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. Juniors Lupaschuk played his junior-level hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for five seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Prince Albert Raiders and Red Deer Rebels. He was traded from the Raiders to the Rebels in 2001 in time to play for the Rebels during their 2001 Memorial Cup win. Boyd Gordon (born October 19, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Washington Capitals, Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, and Philadelphia Flyers.
