The 2001 Kansas City Royals season was the 33rd season for the franchise, and their 29th at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals failed to improve on their 77-85 record from 2000 and finished fifth in the American League Central with a record of 65 wins and 97 losses. The Royals missed the postseason for the 16th consecutive season. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Along with the National League East, the AL Central is one of two divisions in the Major Leagues in which all of its members have won a World Series title. Brad Voyles
Bradley Roy Voyles (born December 30, 1976) is a former professional baseball pitcher who played for three seasons. He pitched in 40 games for the Kansas City Royals from 2001 to 2003. Voyles attended Luxemburg-Casco High School in Luxemburg, Wisconsin. He did not pitch for the school's baseball team after his sophomore year because, according to Voyles, he had too little command of his pitches. He entered the workforce after high school and did not plan to attend college until he received a scholarship offer from a Kishwaukee College coach who had only heard of Voyles' performance at a baseball camp. After two years at Kishwaukee, he continued his college baseball career at Lincoln Memorial University. Daniel Robert Reichert (; born July 12, 1976) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays. Reichert pitched at Turlock High School in Turlock, California, and then became a star pitcher for University of the Pacific. Kenneth Scott Mullen (born January 17, 1975) is an American former pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers from 2000 to 2003. Mullen played college baseball at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and Dallas Baptist University. In 1995, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Brian Meadows
Matthew Brian Meadows (born November 21, 1975) is an American former Major League Baseball relief pitcher. Meadows pitched with the Florida Marlins for two years. He won 11 games in back to back seasons (1998, 1999) despite having an ERA over 5.00 in those seasons. In 2000, he was traded to the San Diego Padres, he made 22 starts for the Padres before being traded to the Kansas City Royals. He finished the season with a record of 13-10 and an ERA of 5.13 in 33 games. In 2001, he had a 1-6 record with an ERA of 6.97 in 10 games for the Royals. He was released following the 2001 season. Richard Douglas Henry (born December 10, 1963) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher and current coach. Jason Alan Grimsley (born August 7, 1967) is an American former Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for seven teams during a 15-year career.
