Troon
Troon (Scottish Gaelic: ''An Truthail'') is a town and sea port in South Ayrshire, situated on the west coast of Ayrshire in Scotland, about north of Ayr and northwest of Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Troon has a port with ferry and freight services, and a yacht marina. Up until January 2016, P&O Ferries, P&O operated a seasonal ferry service to Larne. In May 2006, a ferry service to Campbeltown was added, although this was withdrawn the following year. Since March 2024, Caledonian MacBrayne have operated a ferry service to Brodick on the Isle of Arran. In the 2001 census the population of Troon, not including the nearby village of Loans, South Ayrshire, Loans but including the Barassie area, was estimated at 14,766, a 4.77% increase on the 1991 estimate of 14,094. James McGhie, Lord McGhie
James Marshall McGhie, Lord McGhie is a Scottish lawyer who until 2014 was the Chairman of the Scottish Land Court and President of the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and a Senator of the College of Justice. Personal life Education McGhie was educated at Perth Academy, and studied at the School of Law of the University of Edinburgh. He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1969. Family He married Anne Cockburn in 1968, with whom he has a son and a daughter. Legal career McGhie was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1983, and served as an Advocate Depute from 1983 to 1986. From 1987 to 1992, he was part-time Chairman of the Medical Appeal Tribunal, and from 1992 to 1996 was a Member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. The Scottish Land Court () is a Scottish court of law based in Edinburgh with subject-matter jurisdiction covering disputes between landlords and tenants relating to agricultural tenancies, and matters related to crofts and crofters. The Scottish Land Court is both a trial court and an appeal court; hearings at first-instance are often heard by a Divisional Court of one of the Agricultural Members advised by the Principal Clerk. Decisions of the Divisional Court can be appealed to the Full Court, which will consist of at least one legally qualified judicial member and the remaining Agricultural Member. Brian Gill, Lord Gill, KSG FRSE FRSAMD FRSCM (born 25 February 1942) is a retired Scottish judge and legal academic. Lord Gill was Lord President and Lord Justice General and held that position for three years from 2012 until 2015. His 2007 to 2009 consultation and report into the failings of the Scottish legal system was followed by a major overhaul of the entire court system once he had been appointed Lord President. As an advocate, he practised principally in property law, and in particular agricultural law. He was appointed a judge of the Court of Session in 1994 and was Chairman of the Scottish Law Commission from 1996 to 2001.
