The 2001 Detroit Tigers season was the team's 101st season and its second at Comerica Park. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Along with the National League East, the AL Central is one of two divisions in the Major Leagues in which all of its members have won a World Series title. In fact, each team has captured at least two World Series championships. The Kansas City Royals were the most recent team from the division to win the World Series. Damion Easley
Jacinto Damion Easley (born November 11, 1969) is an American former professional baseball player who is currently an assistant hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB). While primarily a second baseman throughout his career, he made appearances at every position except pitcher and catcher. He played in MLB for the California Angels, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Florida Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and New York Mets. Willie Blair
William Allen Blair (born December 18, 1965) is an American former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball and current pitching coach for the Dayton Dragons. Playing career Blair played baseball for Morehead State University before the Toronto Blue Jays drafted him in the 11th round of the 1986 amateur draft. He spent four seasons in the Blue Jays minor league system, playing for the St. Catharines Blue Jays (1986), the Dunedin Blue Jays (1987–1988), the Knoxville Smokies (1988), and the Syracuse Chiefs (1989). Blair made his major league debut with the Blue Jays on April 11, 1990, and spent the season with the major league squad. He was traded in the offseason to the Cleveland Indians for Alex Sanchez, and played in 11 games for the Indians that year. Adam Bernero
Adam Gino Bernero (born November 28, 1976) is a retired Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher. Bernero pitched for the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Kansas City Royals. Bernero signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1999 immediately after his final collegiate game with Armstrong Atlantic State University. Tigers scout Jeff Wetherby followed Bernero to a restaurant in order to sign him. Because he forgot to bring a contract, and because the Atlanta Braves were also interested in Bernero, Wetherby wrote out a contract for Bernero on a napkin which Bernero signed. Bernero was a member of the Tigers until 2003, before being traded in mid-season to the Colorado Rockies. At that point, Bernero's record was 1-12 with an ERA of 6.08. Matt Anderson (baseball)
Matthew Jason Anderson (born August 17, 1976) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) relief pitcher. The first overall pick in the 1997 MLB Draft, he played for the Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies between 1998 and 2005. Early life and college career Anderson attended St. Xavier High School, which was also attended by MLB players Paul Byrd, Chris Burke, and Jack Savage. After high school, he went on to Rice University. In 1995, Anderson was a Southwest Conference all-star. In 1996, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was named the league's top pro prospect. Mark Redman
Mark Allen Redman (born January 5, 1974) is an American former professional baseball left-handed starting pitcher. Early career A 1992 graduate of Escondido High School in California, he played baseball and football before attending The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California for one year and then transferring to the University of Oklahoma. In his sophomore year at Oklahoma, Redman set school records for strikeouts (136) and innings pitched (135.1) during the regular season and posted a 5-0 record in post-season play as he helped the Sooners win the 1994 College World Series title. Redman named 1st Team All- Big Eight, Big Eight Newcomer of the Year, NCAA All-Regional team and was a member of the College World Series All-Tournament team in 1994. Todd Barton Jones (born April 24, 1968) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed. He was an effective middle reliever for several teams and also filled the role of closer, most notably with the Detroit Tigers for whom he earned 235 of his 319 career saves. Jeffrey Charles Weaver (born August 22, 1976) is an American former right-handed Major League Baseball pitcher. During his career, he pitched for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, St. Louis Cardinals, and Seattle Mariners. He is the older brother of fellow MLB pitcher Jered Weaver. Charles Brandon Inge ( ; born May 19, 1977) is an American former professional baseball third baseman and catcher and currently a volunteer assistant coach for the Michigan Wolverines baseball team. Juan De Dios Encarnación (born March 8, 1976) is a Dominican former professional baseball outfielder. He played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1997 to 2007 for the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, and St. Louis Cardinals. Deivi Cruz Garcia (born November 6, 1972) is a Dominican former professional baseball shortstop. He was born in Bani, Nizao, Dominican Republic. Cruz played at the Major League Baseball level for nine seasons (-) with the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, and Washington Nationals.
