The 2001 Brasil Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Costa do Sauipe resort, Mata de São João, in Brazil that was part of the International Series of the 2001 ATP Tour and of Tier II of the 2001 WTA Tour. Hard Court
A hardcourt (or hard court) is a surface or floor on which a sport is played, most usually in reference to tennis courts. It is typically made of rigid materials such as asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Historically, hardwood surfaces were also in use in indoor settings, similar to an indoor basketball court, but these surfaces are rare now. Tennis Tennis hard courts are made of synthetic/acrylic layers on top of a concrete or asphalt foundation and can vary in color. These courts tend to play medium-fast to fast because there is little energy absorption by the court, as with grass courts but unlike clay courts. Patricia Tarabini
Patricia Tarabini (born 6 August 1968) is a former tennis player from Argentina. She represented her country and won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic games, with Paola Suárez, where they lost 7–9 in the third set to eventual gold medalists from China, Sun Tiantian and Li Ting. On 9 May 1988, Tarabini reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 29. Her career-high doubles ranking is No. 12, which she achieved on 17 August 1998. Patricia turned pro in 1986, and won a total of 15 top-level doubles titles in her career. Nicole Arendt
Nicole J. Arendt (born August 26, 1969) is an American retired professional tennis player. Arendt won sixteen doubles titles in her career. The left-hander reached her highest singles ranking on the WTA Tour on June 16, 1997, when she was ranked 49th in the world. Arendt reached her career-high doubles ranking of No. 3 in the world on August 25, 1997. Arendt was born in Somerville, New Jersey. She attended the Hun School of Princeton for her high school education. Arendt received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she played for coach Andy Brandi's Florida Gators women's tennis team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1988 to 1991. Brent Haygarth (born 27 December 1967) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa. He enjoyed most of his tennis success while playing doubles. Gastón Etlis Gastón Etlis (born 4 November 1974) is a former tennis player from Argentina. The right-hander won four career titles in doubles, and reached his highest ATP rankings of World No. 114 in singles May 2000 and World No. 17 in doubles in January 2005. Etlis' greatest success in singles came in the final tournament of his singles career, reaching the semifinals of Costa do Sauípe in 2003. Tennis career Etlis turned professional in 1993.
