2001 Armenian Cup
The 2001 Armenian Cup was the tenth edition of the Armenian Cup, a football competition. In 2001, the tournament had 16 participants, none of which were reserve teams. Results First round The first legs were played on 7 and 8 April 2001. The second legs were played on 12 and 13 April 2001. Quarter-finals The first legs were played on 22 April 2001. The second legs were played on 27 April 2001. *Shirak was awarded a walkover, as Kilikia did not play out of protest against not having their 1st round league match vs Pyunik (who fielded an ineligible player and were fined) awarded to them Semi-finals The first legs were played on 3 and 4 May 2001. The second legs were played on 12 and 13 May 2001. Araks Ararat FC
Araks Ararat FC ( hy, Արաքս Արարատ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), is a defunct Armenian football club from the town of Ararat, Ararat Province. Club history The club was founded in 1960 as FC Ararat to represent the town of Ararat. With the independence of Armenia, the Ararat Cement Factory took over FC Ararat in 1993 and the club was renamed FC Tsement Ararat. They played in the Armenian Premier League and won two titles, the first in 1998 as Tsement and the 2nd in 2000 as Araks Ararat. The following year, Tsement yielded the championship to FC Shirak by two points and ended up on the third spot behind FC Ararat Yerevan. However, after many successful years, the club president ''Abraham Babayan'' was unable to finance the club. Eventually, the rights were sold in late 2000 to a new sponsor based in Yerevan and Araks Ararat FC was dissolved. In the 2001 Armenian Premier League, FC Pyunik were the champions. Overview * FC Armenicum, Karabakh Yerevan, Lori Vanadzor, and FC Kotayk were promoted from the Armenian First League last year. FC Armenicum were dissolved and yielded their place to the revived FC Pyunik. * Newly established Dinamo-2000 Yerevan are allowed to participate in the premier league without competing in the Armenian First League first. * In August 2001, Araks Ararat FC were dissolved and Spartak Yerevan took their place in the championship. * FC Banants Kotayk demerged from Kotayk Abovyan and the owner of the club decided to move the club from Abovyan to Yerevan, and thus Banants Kotayk became FC Banants Yerevan. Tigran Yesayan
Tigran Yesayan ( hy, Տիգրան Եսայան, born 2 June 1972) is an Armenian football former player and coach. He played striker for the Armenia national football team and for several Armenian Premier League clubs. Club career Tigran Yesayan began playing football in 1990 for Zoravana, which competed in the second minor league Soviet First League. Since 1992, Zoravana moved directly to the Armenian Premier League, in which the club finished bottom of the league and had its place relegated to the Armenian First League. However, after the season, Yesayan moved to Zvartnots Echmiadzin. After the end of the season, Yesayan again moved to Dinamo Yerevan, which played in the Armenian Premier League. FC Kotayk
FC Kotayk ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Կոտայք) is a defunct Armenian football club from the town of Abovyan, Kotayk Province. History Founded in 1955, Kotayk was one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia. After playing several years in the Armenian SSR League as well as the Soviet First League, Kotayk made their debut in the Armenian Premier League in 1992. They participated in the European Cups for the first time in 1996–97. In the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winning 1–0 at home against AEK Larnaca from Cyprus. After losing the 2nd leg away from home with a result of 0–5, they were eliminated. However, the club was dissolved in 2005 due to both financial and non-financial shortcomings. The club played at the Armenian Premier League, the top division in Armenian football.
