2000 United States Presidential Election In Nevada
The 2000 United States presidential election in Nevada took place on November 7, 2000, and was part of the 2000 United States presidential election. Voters chose four representatives, or electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Nevada was won by Texas Governor George W. Bush, who won the state with 49.52% of the vote over Al Gore, who took 45.98%. Bush won every county except Clark County, which is home of Las Vegas. Bush also won Nevada's 2nd congressional district, as Gore won Nevada's 1st congressional district. Also, Ralph Nader got over 2% of the vote. This was also the most recent presidential election (while also being the only time since 1976, and the second time since 1908) in which Nevada did not side with the winner of the popular vote. Howard Jay Phillips (February 3, 1941 – April 20, 2013) was an American politician and activist. A political conservative, Phillips was a United States presidential candidate who served as the chairman of The Conservative Caucus, a conservative public policy advocacy group which he founded in 1974. Phillips was a founding member of the U.S. Taxpayers Party, which later became known as the Constitution Party. None Of These Candidates
"None of These Candidates" is a voting option in Nevada for all statewide and presidential election ballots. This option is listed along with the names of individuals running for the position and is often described as "none of the above". The option first appeared on the Nevada ballot in 1975. Notable impact on elections If the "None of These Candidates" option receives the most votes in an election, then the actual candidate who receives the most votes still wins the election. This has most notably happened on two occasions: in the 1976 Republican primary for Nevada's At-large congressional district, None of These Candidates received 16,097 votes, while Walden Earhart received 9,831 votes, followed by Dart Anthony with 8,097 votes. The 2000 United States presidential election in New Mexico took place on November 7, 2000, and was part of the 2000 United States presidential election. Voters chose five electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. New Mexico was won by Vice President Al Gore by a 0.06 percent margin. It was the closest state in the entire presidential election by raw vote margin (366 votes), which was even closer than Florida. News outlets called New Mexico for Gore at approximately 10:21 p.m. (EST), but later retracted the call when it was determined to be too close to call. Gore was not declared the winner of the state until November 17.
