The 2000 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships The UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships are the world championships for cyclo-cross organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Starting in 2020, six events are organized each year – men's elite, women's elite, men's under 23, wome ... were held in Sint-Michielsgestel, Netherlands on Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29, 2000. This was the first year that a women's event was held. The track for the race was 2660 meter long with 700 meter road, 1080 meter grass and 880 meter forest trail. Sint-Michielsgestel
Sint-Michielsgestel () is a village in the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel, Netherlands. Geography The 120 km long river Dommel flows north from a well near Peer in Belgium. Just north of 's-Hertogenbosch it is joined by the Aa and joins the Meuse as Dieze. It currently divides Sint-Michielsgestel in two parts. In the past the Dommel was important as a transport axis and had crucial influence on the village's history. Contemporary Sint-Michielsgestel Sint-Michielsgestel is located near the central transport axis in the Netherlands, between 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. Nowadays this axis is dominated by the A2 motorway, but towards 's-Hertogenbosch the village has an even more direct access via the N617. No wonder that the village grew when the suburbanization process started, and it still does. Adrie Van Der Poel
Adrie van der Poel (born 17 June 1959 in Bergen op Zoom) is a retired Dutch cyclist. Van der Poel was a professional from 1981 to 2000. His biggest wins included six classics, two stages of the Tour de France and the World Cyclo-Cross Championships in 1996. He also obtained the second place and silver medal in the World Road Championships in 1983 behind Greg LeMond and five second places in the World Cyclo-Cross championships. The Grand Prix Adrie van der Poel is named after him. Career Van der Poel began his career on the road and during his first season as a professional he obtained second place in Paris–Nice behind Stephen Roche and second place in the La Flèche Wallonne. In the Tour de France, he won two stages; his stage win in 1988 set the record for fastest stage (since then only surpassed by three cyclists). Daphny Van Den Brand
Daphny van den Brand, (born 6 April 1978 in Zeeland, North Brabant) is a Dutch cyclo-cross, road bicycle and mountain bike racer. Daphny van den Brand started her cycling at eight. She won races thanks to her sprint. Van den Brand joined the Dutch junior team. She won her first medal as a junior in 1993 during the cyclo-cross race in Sint-Michielsgestel, where she finished third . Dutch mountain bike manager Leo van Zeeland asked her in 1994 to race on a mountain bike. Van den Brand took part in a race in Bergschenhoek and finished in fifth position. She rode the European and world junior mountain biking championships and finished seventh in both. Van den Brand then concentrated on mountain biking and cyclo-cross. She won eight national cyclo-cross championships and the cyclo-cross world championship in 2003 in Monopoli.
