2000 U.S. Open Cup Final
The 2000 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup ran from June through October, 2000, open to all soccer teams in the United States. The Chicago Fire earned their second Open Cup by defeating the Miami Fusion 2–1 in the final at Soldier Field, Chicago. Amateur club Uruguay SC narrowly missed a major second-round upset, losing in overtime to the Tampa Bay Mutiny. Two PDL teams - the Mid Michigan Bucks and the Chicago Sockers - beat MLS teams in the second round, but the quarterfinals were an all-MLS affair. Mid Michigan came closest to duplicating its second-round upset, losing in a shootout to eventual runner-up Miami. Riverside County Elite were an American soccer team established in 1998 that spent the 2000 season in the USISL D-3 Pro League. History In 1998, Jack Fielding founded the Riverside County Elite as a U-21 team with the intention of eventually entering it into the USISL. He and his wife created the Riverside Soccer Development Corporation and entered into a partnership with the San Diego Soccer Development Corporation which operated the San Diego Flash. In a sport or game, sudden death (also sudden-death, sudden-death overtime, or a sudden-death round) is a form of competition where play ends as soon as one competitor is ahead of the others, with that competitor becoming the winner. Sudden death is typically used as a tiebreaker when a contest is tied at the end of regulation (normal) playing time or the completion of the normal playing task. An alternative tiebreaker method to sudden death is to play an extra, shortened segment of the game. In association football 30 minutes of extra time (overtime) after 90 minutes of normal time, or in golf one playoff round (18 holes) after four standard rounds (72 holes) are two alternatives. California Gold was an American soccer team which began playing under the Gold moniker in 2002. The club was founded in 1997 as the Stanislaus County Cruisers.
