2000 TV Guide Television Awards
The 2000 TV Guide NZ Television Awards were staged on Saturday 11 November 2000 at the Aotea Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. Honouring excellence in New Zealand television for the previous year, the awards were sponsored by New Zealand TV Guide magazine. Nominees and winners Awards were given in 28 categories. Stephanie Tauevihi
Stephanie Ann Tauevihi is a New Zealand songwriter, singer and actress, known for her work as the fictional character, Donna Heka, in the New Zealand television series ''Shortland Street''. She also played a Real estate Agent in one episode of short-lived NZ program ''Rude Awakenings''. She has provided songs and vocals for New Zealand band Strawpeople. Career Tauevihi began her career on radio station Mai FM, and entered television as a presenter for the youth television show '' Infocus''. She has sung with and provided vocals for band Strawpeople, for which work she received a 1995 nomination for 'Best Female Vocalist' at the New Zealand Music Awards. Leon Narbey
Leon Gordon Alexander Narbey (born 2 August 1947) is a New Zealand cinematographer. Born in Helensville, Narbey was educated at the Elam School of Fine Arts, specialising in sculpture. Married Anita Janske Narbey (1944 - 2019) in 1966 and they had together two daughters Vanessa and Beatrix. He lectured at the University of Canterbury in 1972, before joining the Television New Zealand, New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation as a news cameraman. In the mid-1970s, he shot the Geoff Steven documentary ''Te Matakite o Aotearoa'', about the 1975 Māori land march. In 1978 he made ''Bastion Point Day 507'' with Merata Mita and Gerd Pohlmann which he also edited and co-produced with them. Later he continued his partnership with Steven on three documentaries shot in China in 1979 including ''Gung Ho'' (about Rewi Alley) and ''The Humble Force''. Country Calendar
''Country Calendar'' is a New Zealand documentary television series focusing on rural life in New Zealand. It has been aired on TVNZ 1 since March 1966, making it New Zealand's longest-running television series. Since 2013 the show aired for a season of 30 weeks per year, however as of 2016 it is being broadcast for 40 weeks a year. Episodes from the 2013 season to present are available to watch online, through TVNZ OnDemand. ''Country Calendar'' is currently produced by Julian O’Brien, with associate producer Dan Henry. Frank Torley was well known as the narrator of the show, and also produced the show for 23 years. Torley died in March 2016 following a short battle with cancer. The ''Country Calendar'' theme song is from the song "Hillbilly Child" by the Alan Moorhouse Band. Justine Simei-Barton
Justine Simei-Barton is a Samoan theatre and film director and producer in New Zealand. Early life and education Simei-Barton was born in Porirua to Samoan parents. She says she saw few brown faces in theatre, but she was inspired by seeing Jim Moriarty play Hamlet, and Don Selwyn. Simei-Barton moved to Auckland to attend university in 1987. Simei-Barton initially studied law, but graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Studies from the University of Auckland, and then earned a post-graduate diploma in broadcasting. Work Simei-Barton formed the Pacific Theatre company in 1987 based in Auckland. Finding a script for a Papua New Guinea musical in the university library as a student led to Simei-Barton staging ''Feiva/Favour!'' (1988) at the Maidment Theatre's Little Theatre in Auckland. Judy Callingham
Judy Coralyn Sylvia Callingham is a New Zealand scriptwriter, television presenter and journalist. Since the 1970s she has worked on numerous New Zealand television dramas including '' Close to Home'', '' Homeward Bound'', ''Duggan'' and ''Marlin Bay''. She is a former deputy chair of NZ On Air, and together with her husband Brian Edwards runs a media training consultancy company. Early career and scriptwriting In 1962 Callingham began working for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation in radio advertising, and in 1963 she became a journalist at the ''New Zealand Listener''. Judy Bailey
Judy Ann Bailey (born ) is a former news presenter for ONE News, the highest rated evening television news programme in New Zealand. Bailey joined the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (now Television New Zealand) in 1971 and worked as a reporter on news and current affairs programmes. She presented the regional news with John Hawkesby for Auckland from 1980 to 1987 in the programme ''Top Half''. From 1986 she presented the ''Network News at Six'' news bulletin (alongside Neil Billington in 1986 - 87 and then Richard Long until the end of 2003). A reshuffle in TVNZ following the departure of Paul Holmes in 2004 saw her become the sole news presenter for the 6pm ''ONE News'' bulletin, and her salary soared to NZ$800,000. Jim Hickey (broadcaster)
Jim Hickey (born 1 August 1949) is a weather presenter for TVNZ in New Zealand. He was the senior weathercaster for TVNZ for 22 years. Biography Hickey grew up on a farm in Ōpunake, and initially trained as a secondary school teacher before going on to study a Bachelor of Arts in geography with specialisation in climatology. Hickey later completed a Diploma of Meteorology. In 2006, Hickey was announced as a board member of Family First New Zealand, a conservative Christian lobby group, a position he still holds. Hickey has an affinity for aviation; during his time as a weatherman, Hickey would pilot himself from his home in New Plymouth to his work in Auckland in a Cessna. John James Campbell (born 10 February 1964) is a New Zealand journalist and radio and television personality. He is currently a presenter and reporter at TVNZ; before that, he presented ''Checkpoint'', Radio New Zealand's drive time show, from 2016 to 2018. For ten years prior to that (ending May 2015), he presented ''Campbell Live'', a current affairs programme on TV3. Jeremy Wells
Jeremy Wells (born 7 June 1977) is a New Zealand media personality who hosts the Radio Hauraki breakfast show with Matt Heath, '' Seven Sharp'' alongside Hilary Barry, and the NZ version of ''Taskmaster''. Career Wells first appeared on television in 1997 on MTV. He later appeared as Newsboy on Mikey Havoc's television show. Mikey Havoc
Mikey Havoc (born c.1970), also known colloquially as Havoc (real name Michael Roberts) is a New Zealand media personality. Havoc was a DJ for 95bFM for nearly 25 years over three periods, most recently 2017-2019. Radio Roberts first became a DJ on the University of Auckland's 95bFM radio station in the early 1990s. He was on the breakfast show from 1996 to 2002, winning Best New Broadcaster at the 1997 New Zealand Radio Awards and later moved to the afternoon-evening "Drive" show. He once again took over as the breakfast show host on 4 September 2006, after previous host Wallace Chapman quit to pre-empt a suspected layoff.
