2000 Motor City Bowl
The 2000 Motor City Bowl was a National Collegiate Athletic Association bowl game in which the Marshall Thundering Herd football, Marshall Thundering Herd of the Mid-American Conference, MAC defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats football, Cincinnati Bearcats of the Conference USA 25–14. It was played on December 27, 2000, at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. The Bearcats were C-USA runners-up fresh off the wins from five of their last six games, which included Syracuse Orange football, Syracuse and #20 Southern Miss Golden Eagles football, Southern Mississippi. Marshall however was the four-time MAC champion who had also won five of their last six games, one of which was against Western Michigan Broncos football, Western Michigan, who had defeated them earlier in the season, in the MAC Championship Game. Southern Miss Golden Eagles Football
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles football program represents the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They play college football in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The Eagles are currently members of the Sun Belt Conference and play their home games at M. M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. History Early history (1912–1974) Southern Miss first fielded a football team in 1912, coached by Ronald Slay. That team posted a 2–1 record. A. B. The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl (known as the Motor City Bowl until 2009) was a post-season college football bowl game that was played annually from 1997 to 2013. The first five games (1997–2001) were played at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, and moved to the 65,000-seat Ford Field in downtown Detroit, Michigan in 2002—the past and present homes of the Detroit Lions respectively. The game marked the first bowl game held in the Detroit area since the Cherry Bowl in 1984–85. The 2000–01 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. Darius Watts
Darius Orlando Watts (born December 19, 1981) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2004 NFL draft. In the NFL, Watts played for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants. In team sports, a most valuable player (MVP) award is an honor typically bestowed upon an individual (or individuals, in the instance of a tie) whose individual performance is the greatest in an entire league, for a particular competition, or on a specific team. Southern Airways Flight 932 was a chartered Southern Airways Douglas DC-9 domestic United States commercial jet flight from Stallings Field (ISO) in Kinston, North Carolina, to Huntington Tri-State Airport/Milton J. Ferguson Field (HTS) near Kenova and Ceredo, West Virginia. At 7:36 pm on November 14, 1970, the aircraft crashed into a hill just short of the Tri-State Airport, killing all 75 people on board – 37 members of the Marshall University football team, five coaches, seven staff members, 21 boosters, two pilots, two flight attendants, and a charter coordinator. The Lou Groza Award is presented annually to the top college football placekicker in the United States by the Palm Beach County, Florida, Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The award is named after former Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns player Lou Groza. It has been presented since 1992, with Joe Allison (gridiron football), Joe Allison of Memphis Tigers football, Memphis State receiving the inaugural award.
