2000 Chilean Telethon
The 2000 Chilean telethon was the 16th Teletón (Chile), Teletón solidarity campaign held in Chile, taking place on 1–2 December 2000. The theme for 2000 was ''"A Challenge to all Chileans."'' The goal was met and exceeded with a final collection of CL$6,772,445,028. The poster boy for the event was Ignacio Soto. This version was performed 2 years after the previous because in December 1999, because the 1999–2000 Chilean presidential election, presidential elections took place. This was the first telethon to be held during the government of Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle. , making 2000 the first year the telethon was held under the leadership of Ricardo Lagos Escobar. Cristián Mario García-Huidobro Lira (born 27 May 1952) is a Chilean actor and comedian. Career Known for his appearances on television since the mid-1980s in programs such as Sábados Gigantes where he played ''Francisco Javier "Pompi" Eguiguren'' in ''Los Eguiguren'' section and ''Tito García'' in ''Departamento de solteros''. "Ode to Joy" (German: , literally "To heJoy") is an ode written in the summer of 1785 by German poet, playwright, and historian Friedrich Schiller and published the following year in '' Thalia''. A slightly revised version appeared in 1808, changing two lines of the first and omitting the last stanza. "Ode to Joy" is best known for its use by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final (fourth) movement of his Ninth Symphony, completed in 1824. Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos (originally known as Estadio Nacional) is the national stadium of Chile, and is located in the Ñuñoa district of Santiago. It is the largest stadium in Chile with an official capacity of 48,665. It is part of a 62 hectare sporting complex which also features tennis courts, an aquatics center, a modern gymnasium, a velodrome, a BMX circuit, and an assistant ground/warmup athletics track. Construction began in February 1937 and the stadium was inaugurated on December 3, 1938. The architecture was based on the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
