2000 Algarve Cup
The 2000 Algarve Cup was the seventh edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's association football tournament. It took place between 12 and 18 March 2000 in Portugal with United States winning the event defeating Norway, 1-0, in the final-game. China ended up third defeating Sweden, 1-0, in the third prize game. Format The eight participating teams are Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United States. The eight teams were split into two groups that played a round-robin group stage. On completion of this, the fourth placed teams from each group would playoff to determine seventh and eighth place, the third placed teams from each group would play each other to decide fifth and sixth place, the second placed teams in each group would play to determine third and fourth place and the winners of the groups would compete for first and second place. Dagny Mellgren
Dagny Mellgren Haugland (; born 19 June 1978) from Ålgård is a former Norwegian footballer. Career She retired in December 2005 while playing for Klepp. She has also played for Boston Breakers, in the WUSA. Joy Fawcett
Joy Lynn Fawcett (; born February 8, 1968) is an American soccer coach and former professional player. She earned 241 caps with the United States women's national soccer team and retired in 2004 as the highest scoring defender in team history. Fawcett was a founding member of the WUSA and was elected for induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009. She was in the movie '' Soccer Mom'' as herself. Youth Fawcett grew up in southern California, where she attended Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. Her high school team won four league championships. She then attended the University of California, Berkeley where she played on the women's soccer team from 1987 to 1989. She was a three-time, first team All-American. Zhang Ouying
Zhang Ouying (; 2 November 1975 – 1 December 2018) was a Chinese football (soccer) player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics and in the 2004 Summer Olympics as well as the 1999, 2003, and 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. She was a member of the Chinese team that won the silver medal at the 1999 World Cup. Life Zhang was born in Zhangjiakou, Hebei, in 1975. In 2000, she finished fifth with the Chinese team in the 2000 Summer Olympics. She played all three matches. Four years later she finished ninth with the Chinese team in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Sun Wen (footballer)
Sun Wen (; born 6 April 1973) is a Chinese former professional footballer who played as a forward. She previously captained the China national team and the Atlanta Beat of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA). In 2000, she won the FIFA Female Player of the Century along with Michelle Akers. Sun won both the Golden Ball (top player) and Golden Boot (top scorer) for her performance at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. She is considered one of the all-time greats of the women's game. Tina Cecilia Elisabeth Nordlund (born 19 March 1977) is a Swedish football coach and former player, most recently an assistant coach at Umeå IK. She is one of the most well known Swedish female footballers.
