1st Military Region (Algeria)
The 1st Military Region is a military region of the People's National Army of Algeria. It has its headquarters at Blida, and includes the capital of Algiers Much of the internal disorder and violence associated with economic distress and the Islamist movement of the 1980s occurred in this Military Region, as well as the 5th Military Region (Constantine). Army units were strengthened in and near the cities where attacks against the government and security forces have occurred. Regional commanders were originally all colonels, and Said Abid probably served in this rank from 1964 when he took over the region. He appeared to be holding command during the 1965 Algerian coup d'état. Said Bey was chosen by Lt. Gen Mohamed Lamari to be the commander of the 1st Military Region in 1994, but Boughaba Rabah replaced him in 1997 after multiple massacres occurred in Blida. Military Region
Military districts (also called military regions) are formations of a state's armed forces (often of the Army) which are responsible for a certain area of territory. They are often more responsible for administrative than operational matters, and in countries with conscript forces, often handle parts of the conscription cycle. Abdallah Belhouchet
Abd Allah ( ar, عبدالله, translit=ʻAbd Allāh), also spelled Abdallah, Abdellah, Abdollah, Abdullah and many others, is an Arabic name meaning "Servant of God". Mohammed ben Ahmed Abdelghani (18 March 1927 – 22 September 1996) ( ar, محمد بن أحمد عبد الغني) was the prime minister of Algeria under President Chadli Bendjedid from 8 March 1979 until 22 January 1984. Military Police (Algeria)
Military police battalions (BPM) are combat units belonging to the military police of the National People's Army (ANP) in Algeria. History The military police have existed since the establishment of the National People's Army (ANP) in 1962, and these units were the basis of the small units in all regiments. These units at the base were to stand guard at the regimental level, and their main purpose was to hunt down recalcitrant conscripts who deserted or sought to escape from national service, and they also had the task of maintaining law and order within the regiments. Reghaïa
Reghaïa is a municipality in Algiers Province, Algeria. It is located in Rouïba district and is the most populated municipality of the district. Territorial Air Defence Forces
The Territorial Air Defence Force (french: Forces de défense aérienne du Territoire , ar, قوات الدفاع الجوي عن الإقليم) abbreviated as DAT) is an armed service/branch of the Algerian People's National Army, the armed forces of Algeria. Lt. Gen. Mohamed Lamari (7 June 1939 – 13 February 2012) ( ar, محمد العماري) was Chief of Staff of the Algerian army during most of the Algerian Civil War. Personal life He was born on 7 June 1939 in Biskra, to a family originally from Bordj Benazzouz (near Biskra). Early military career He joined the French army, completing his training in the cavalry at the Ecole de guerre in Saumur. In 1961, seven years into the Algerian War of Independence (and just a year before independence), he changed sides, joining the National Liberation Army. 1965 Algerian Coup D'état
The 1965 Algerian coup d'état brought Colonel Houari Boumédiène to power as Chairman of the Revolutionary Council in Algeria. The bloodless ''coup d'état'' saw Algeria's first President, Ahmed Ben Bella, arrested and his closest supporters imprisoned by Boumédiène and his allies, principally in the Algerian Land Forces.
