1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment
The 1st Oregon Infantry Regiment was an American Civil War era military regiment recruited in Oregon for the Union Army. The regiment was formed in November 1864. At full strength, it was composed of ten Company (military unit), companies of foot soldiers. The regiment was used to guard trade routes and escorted immigrant wagon trains from Fort Boise to the Willamette Valley. Its troops were used to pursue and suppress Native American raiders in eastern Oregon and the Idaho Territory. Several detachments accompanied survey parties and built roads in central and southern Oregon. The regiment's last company was mustered out of service in July 1867. George Wright (general)
George Wright (October 22, 1803 – July 30, 1865) was an American soldier who served in the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. Early life and career Wright was born in Norwich, Vermont, the son of Roswell Wright and Jemima (Rose) Wright. Wright's family had an extensive military background; his father was a veteran of the War of 1812 and Norwich University founder Alden Partridge was related to his mother. Wright graduated from West Point in 1822 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Infantry. He served in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment on the frontier in Wisconsin and Maine. George Byron Currey
George Byron Currey (April 4, 1833 – March 6, 1906) was a pioneer, lawyer, soldier, farmer, and editor in the U.S. state of Oregon. A native of Indiana, he served as an officer in the 1st Oregon Volunteer Cavalry Regiment and then the 1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment], before being appointed commander of the District of Oregon (military), District of the Columbia at the end of the American Civil War as well as in the Snake War in 1865. Irvin McDowell (October 15, 1818 – May 4, 1885) was an American army officer. He is best known for his defeat in the First Battle of Bull Run, the first large-scale battle of the American Civil War. Benjamin Alvord (August 18, 1813 – October 16, 1884) was an American soldier, mathematician, and botanist.
