1N4148
The 1N4148 is a standard silicon switching signal diode. It is one of the most popular and long-lived switching diodes because of its dependable specifications and low cost. Its name follows the JEDEC nomenclature. The 1N4148 is useful in switching applications up to about 100 MHz with a Diode#Reverse-recovery effect, reverse-recovery time of no more than 4 ns. History Texas Instruments announced the 1N914 diode in 1960. It was registered at JEDEC by Texas Instruments no later than 1961, and was second source, second-sourced by 11 manufacturers that same year. The 1N4148 was registered at JEDEC in 1968 as a silicon switching signal diode for military and industrial applications. It was second-sourced by many manufacturers; Texas Instruments listed their version of the device in an October 1966 data sheet. The 1N914 and 1N4148 have an enduring popularity in low-current applications. Overview As the most common mass-produced switching diode, the 1N4148 replaced the ...

Diode 1n4148
A diode is a two- terminal electronic component that conducts electric current primarily in one direction (asymmetric conductance). It has low (ideally zero) resistance in one direction and high (ideally infinite) resistance in the other. A semiconductor diode, the most commonly used type today, is a crystalline piece of semiconductor material with a p–n junction connected to two electrical terminals. It has an exponential current–voltage characteristic. Semiconductor diodes were the first semiconductor electronic devices. The discovery of asymmetric electrical conduction across the contact between a crystalline mineral and a metal was made by German physicist Ferdinand Braun in 1874. Today, most diodes are made of silicon, but other semiconducting materials such as gallium arsenide and germanium are also used. The obsolete thermionic diode is a vacuum tube with two electrodes, a heated cathode and a plate, in which electrons can flow in only one direction, from the c ...

DO-35
DO-204 is a family of diode semiconductor packages defined by JEDEC. This family comprises lead-mounted axial devices with round leads. Generally a diode will have a line painted near the cathode end. Dimensions Common variants Several common packages are archived in DO-204 as variants, and may be referred to using their alternative names. DO-7 The DO-7 (also known as DO-204-AA) is a common semiconductor package for 1N34A germanium diodes. DO-35 The DO-35 (also known as DO-204-AH or SOD27) is a semiconductor package used to encapsulate signal diodes (i.e., diodes meant to handle small amounts of current and voltage). It is often used to package small signal, low power diodes such as 1N4148 (a 100 V, 300 mA silicon diode.) DO-41 The DO-41 (also known as DO-204-AL or SOD66) is a common semiconductor package used to encapsulate rectifier diodes (i.e., diodes meant to handle larger currents and voltages than signal diodes). The name is derived from the JEDEC The Joi ...

Diode Logic
Diode logic (or diode-resistor logic) constructs And (logic), AND and Or (logic), OR logic gates with diodes and Resistor, resistors. An active device (vacuum tubes with control grids in History of computing hardware, early electronic computers, then transistors in diode–transistor logic) is additionally required to provide Inverter (logic gate), logical inversion (NOT) for functional completeness and Amplifier, amplification for voltage ''level restoration'', which diode logic alone can't provide. Since voltage levels weaken with each diode logic stage, multiple stages can't easily be cascaded, limiting diode logic's usefulness. However, diode logic has the advantage of utilizing only cheap passive components. Background Logic gates Logic gates evaluate Boolean algebra, typically using electronic switches controlled by logical inputs connected in Series and parallel circuits, parallel or series. Diode logic can ''only'' implement OR and AND, because Inverter (logic gate), ...

1N58xx Schottky Diodes
The ''1N58xx'' is a series of medium power, fast, low voltage Schottky diodes, which consists of part numbers 1N5817 through 1N5825. Overview The 1N581''x'' are typically packaged in the DO-41 axial through-hole case, and in many cases are interchangeable with the 1N4001 series. The 1N582''x'' are typically packaged in the DO-201AD through-hole case, and in many cases are interchangeable with the 1N54''xx'' series. Being Schottky diodes, the 1N58''xx'' parts have roughly half the forward voltage drop of the 1N400''x''/1N540''x'' series diodes, which improves efficiency in applications where they are usually forward-biased, such as power converters. The cost is a lower voltage rating and higher reverse leakage current (approximately 1 mA at room temperature and increasing with temperature). Common surface-mount Surface-mount technology (SMT), originally called planar mounting, is a method in which the electrical components are mounted directly onto the surface of a ...

1N400x Rectifier Diodes
The 1N400x (or 1N4001 or 1N4000) series is a family of popular one-ampere general-purpose silicon rectifier diodes commonly used in AC adapters for common household appliances. Its blocking voltage varies from 50 volts (1N4001) to 1000 volts (1N4007). This JEDEC device number series is available in the DO-41 axial package. Diodes with similar ratings are available in SMA and MELF surface mount packages (in other part number series). The 1N540x (or 1N5400) series is a similarly popular family of diodes rated 3 Amperes, which has a larger DO-201AD axial package to dissipate heat better. History The 1N400x series was originally introduced by Motorola's Semiconductor Products Division and registered at JEDEC in 1963 as silicon power rectifiers used primarily for military and industrial applications. It appeared in the Motorola ''Semiconductor Data Manual'' in 1965, as replacements for 1N2609 through 1N2617. The 1N540x series were announced in ''Electrical Design News'' ...

Metal Electrode Leadless Face
Metal electrode leadless face (MELF) is a type of leadless cylindrical electronic surface mount device package with metal end terminals. Diodes and resistors are the most common MELF devices. The EN 140401-803 and JEDEC DO-213 standards describe multiple MELF components. Handling difficulties Because of their cylindrical shape and small size, these components can roll off the workbench or circuit board before they have been soldered into place. As such, there is a joke which suggests an alternate meaning for the acronym: ''Most End up Lying on the Floor''. They are sometimes called a "roll away" package. During automated SMT pick-and-place, this happens mostly if the mechanical pressure of the SMD placer nozzle is too low. If the MELF components are placed into the solder paste with enough pressure, then this problem can be minimized. Care must be taken with glass diodes which are less mechanically robust than resistors and other MELF components. Also, when building ...

Fairchild Semiconductor
Fairchild Semiconductor International, Inc. was an American semiconductor company based in San Jose, California. It was founded in 1957 as a division of Fairchild Camera and Instrument by the " traitorous eight" who defected from Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory. It became a pioneer in the manufacturing of transistors and of integrated circuits. Schlumberger bought the firm in 1979 and sold it to National Semiconductor in 1987; Fairchild was spun off as an independent company again in 1997. In September 2016, Fairchild was acquired by ON Semiconductor. The company had locations in the United States at San Jose, California; San Rafael, California; South Portland, Maine; West Jordan, Utah; and Mountaintop, Pennsylvania. Outside the US, it operated locations in Australia; Singapore; Bucheon, South Korea; Penang, Malaysia; Suzhou, China; and Cebu, Philippines, among others. History 1950s In 1955, William Shockley founded Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory, funded by ...
