The 1999 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships was the 63rd such event sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Teams representing 41 countries participated in several levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for group placements in the 2000 competition. Serbia And Montenegro Men's National Ice Hockey Team
The Serbia and Montenegro men's national ice hockey team was the national ice hockey team in Serbia and Montenegro. Originally created as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) national team, after the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Yugoslavia) in April 1992, it assumed the former Yugoslavia national ice hockey team's position in the IIHF World Championships, when they returned to world competition in 1995. The team was renamed the Serbia and Montenegro national team in 2003, when the FRY renamed itself. 1999 IIHF Women's World Championship
The 1999 IIHF Women's World Championships was held between March 8–14, 1999, in Espoo and Vantaa in Finland. Canadian national women's ice hockey team, Team Canada won their fifth consecutive gold medal at the World Championships defeating the United States women's national ice hockey team, United States. Canada skated to a solid 3–1 victory in the final to take the gold with a solid performance that saw them winning all five games. Finland national women's ice hockey team, Finland picked up their fifth consecutive bronze medal, with a win over Swedish national women's ice hockey team, Sweden who had their strongest performance since 1992. 1999 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 1999 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''1999 WJC'') was held in Winnipeg, and five other communities in Manitoba, Canada from December 26, 1998, to January 5, 1999. In the gold medal match at Winnipeg Arena, Russia defeated Canada 3–2 on Artem Chubarov's overtime goal. The bronze medal was claimed by Slovakia, giving the six-year-old country its first medal at an IIHF event. Kosovo War
The Kosovo War (; sr-Cyrl-Latn, Косовски рат, Kosovski rat) was an armed conflict in Kosovo that lasted from 28 February 1998 until 11 June 1999. It was fought between the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), which controlled Kosovo before the war, and the Kosovo Albanian separatist militia known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
